CNN Poll: Joe Biden’s favorability rating drops to lowest point yet amid bribery allegations
By Laura Harris // Jun 21, 2023

A CNN poll released on June 20 revealed that President Joe Biden's favorability rating has experienced a significant decline over the past six months, dropping to the lowest point during his term so far. According to the poll, Biden's approval rating has dropped by eight points since January at 32 percent.

The poll, conducted from June 13-17, involved 1,350 respondents with a 3.4 percent margin of error.

The decrease in President Biden's favorability can be associated with ongoing investigations into corruption and bribery allegations. He allegedly accepted a $5 million bribe from Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevsky. This controversy has marred his presidency and directly impacted public opinion.

In January 2021, shortly after taking office, Biden enjoyed a high watermark approval rating of 59 percent. However, as the months passed, his approval rating started to decline. The chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and the signing of massive spending bills, which contributed to a 40-year-high inflation rate, exacerbated the situation.

By the summer of 2022, Biden's approval rating had already dropped to 36 percent. It jumped to 42 percent in December as many pandemic restrictions were lifted by the Biden administration or were struck down by court rulings, but the rebound was temporary.

The midterm elections also changed the political landscape in America. House Republicans regained control of the chamber, leading to increased oversight and investigations into the Biden administration.

Biden crime family received money from questionable business schemes

In March, a probe revealed that three members of the Biden family collectively received $1.3 million from a Chinese energy company through a Biden associate just two months after the end of Joe Biden's term as vice president under the Obama administration.

Just last month, a memorandum summarizing the findings of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, chaired by Comer (R-Ky.), examined thousands of bank records and legal documents showing nearly two dozen Limited Liability Corporations (LLCs) established by Biden family members to receive payments from private clients, corporations and foreign governments, including China and Romania. (Related: Comer: 9 Biden family members identified as recipients of foreign cash.)

"Bank records show the Biden family, their business associates, and their companies received over $10 million from foreign nationals' companies. The committee has identified payments to Biden family members from foreign companies while Joe Biden served as vice president and after he left public office," the memorandum stated.

Additionally, Comer revealed that nine Biden family members, including two of Joe Biden's grandchildren, received payments from these foreign business ventures.

The New York Post reported that the bank records presented by Comer and the committee revealed that Romanian businessman Gabriel Popoviciu had wired $80,000 to the Bidens. Popoviciu was convicted of bribery in 2016. The funds from Romania, transferred between 2015 and 2017, were deposited into accounts only identified by the name "Biden."

Furthermore, a memo issued by the committee indicated that Hallie Biden, wife of the late son of Joe Biden, received $10,000 from the Romanian businessman in February 2017 and an additional $25,000 as part of a deal with CEFC China Energy later that year through deals facilitated by Hunter and James Biden.

The most recent development came in June when the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) provided Congress with an informant document suggesting that Joe Biden had accepted a $5 million bribe from Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevsky. According to Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the document claims that Zlochevsky possesses 17 audio recordings of conversations with Joe and Hunter Biden, serving as an "insurance policy."

The allegations have resonated with the public, as recent polling indicates that 83 percent of voters believe the FBI should release its informant file regarding the alleged $5 million bribe. A majority of voters also believe that the president indeed accepted the bribe.
