A survey conducted by NBC News from June 16-20 revealed that the vast majority of Americans are not satisfied with the current trajectory of the U.S. under President Joe Biden's leadership.
The survey revealed that 74 percent of respondents believe the country is on the wrong track, while only 20 percent think things are generally headed in the right direction. The poll's findings have drawn comparisons to past elections where voter discontent with the nation's trajectory led to a change in leadership. NBC's Chuck Todd compared it to similar surveys before the 1992 and 2008 presidential elections, which resulted in the Democratic Party reclaiming the presidency from the Republicans.
Meanwhile, The Economist and YouGov conducted a separate poll from June 10-13, gathering responses from 1,500 U.S. adults with a margin of error of 2.9 points. Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) emerged with the highest favorability rating in the said survey.
Results of the poll revealed that RFK Jr. holds a favorable rating of 49 percent among respondents, giving him a net favorability rating of 19 points. (Related: RFK Jr. claims he can beat Joe Biden in 2024 primary.)
Biden and former President Donald Trump shared the second-highest share of respondents viewing them favorably with 44 percent each. Biden's net favorability rating of -9 is just slightly ahead of Trump's -10.
These results came as RFK Jr., the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy and son of former Attorney General Robert Kennedy, emerged as a legitimate primary challenger to Biden. Recent polls have indicated that RFK Jr. has garnered support from approximately one-fifth of Democratic voters, catapulting him into the spotlight and giving him increased media coverage.
RFK Jr.'s unexpected rise in favorability ratings has undoubtedly intensified the 2024 presidential race. However, Big Tech companies are trying to block his path to the White House.
While trying to create an Instagram account, RFK Jr.'s official campaign account received an automatic 180-day ban from the Meta-owned platform. RFK Jr. voiced his concerns on his official Twitter account, emphasizing that such actions hinder democratic processes by restricting candidates' access to the public forum.
"To silence a major political candidate is profoundly undemocratic," RFK Jr. tweeted. "Social media is the modern equivalent of the town square. How can democracy function if only some candidates have access to it?"
RFK Jr.'s previous personal Instagram account, which has a following of over 900,000, was banned years ago due to his outspoken stance against childhood vaccines. Despite attempts for reinstatement, the account remains suspended.
In a similar incident, Ramaswamy, a 37-year-old entrepreneur and a Republican presidential candidate, recently made headlines when he accused tech giant LinkedIn of deliberately locking him out of his account. Initially dismissing it as a technical error, Ramaswamy soon discovered that LinkedIn had flagged his posts on topics such as fossil fuels, Biden's ties to China and the climate movement.
According to the social media platform, Ramaswamy's views violated their policies on hate speech, misinformation, and violence. Ramaswamy denied these allegations, labeling them as an attempt to silence him.
"The fact that they're describing it as an 'error' is a lie," Ramaswamy stated. "I stand my ground... I go to the other side's turf, I hold my ground, and I win. I did that with LinkedIn here."
RFK Jr. and Ramaswamy suggest that Big Tech firms are targeting them for their anti-establishment positions. They anticipate further "election interference" that could escalate into a battle surpassing the controversies surrounding Trump's campaign.
"That was just the first shots that were fired," Ramaswamy warned, alluding to the challenges they may face moving forward.
