Prominent Philadelphia LGBT activist ARRESTED for allegedly sexually assaulting 2 kids
By Ramon Tomey // Dec 20, 2023

A prominent LGBT activist in Philadelphia was arrested for the sexual assault of two underage children.

The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General (PA OAG) confirmed to WPVI 6 that male-to-female transgender Kendall Stephens, 37, was arrested on Dec. 18, three months after the Philadelphia Police Department's (PPD) Special Victims Unit received reports of the abuse.

Stephens was subsequently charged with two counts of rape, indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of a minors and other related crimes. Judge Vincent Furlong of the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas set his bail at $250,000, with the latter's next court appearance scheduled for Dec. 29. According to court records, Stephens had a preliminary arraignment in Philadelphia municipal court on the evening of Dec. 18.

A spokesman for the office of Philadelphia District Attorney (DA) Larry Krasner said in a statement: "The investigation of allegations against [him] is being led by another agency, and as such we have no comment." The OAG often takes on cases from local DAs if they have a conflict in the case, according to WPVI 6.

"The arrest of Stephens sparked a firestorm on social media from those pointing out [his] ties to various [Democratic] political campaigns, [with] some saying the penalty for the alleged crimes should be significant," Fox News wrote.

The Libs of TikTok account elaborated on Stephens' involvement in various campaigns in a post on the X platform. According to the account, he reportedly campaigned for former Pennsylvania AG-turned-Gov. Josh Shapiro. Stephens also supported Krasner and was publicly friendly with Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), with the arrested activist calling the lawmaker an "ally."

"These allegations are abhorrent," said the governor's spokesman Manuel Bonder. "This individual should be prosecuted to the fullest extent and process of the law."

Abuse happened on multiple occasions

According to Fox News, the PPD's probe into Stephens began when the grandmother of one of his victims told police about the sexual assault. The abuse happened on more than one occasion, starting when the boy was eight years old.

Meanwhile, the second victim was reportedly given "gifts out of nowhere" – which his parents claim serve to "keep him quiet." Stephens also allegedly warned one of the victims that he would be put in jail if he told anyone about the encounter.

Stephens previously made headlines after he was assaulted in his South Philadelphia home back in August 2020. He previously claimed that a violent group attacked him for being an MTF transgender, but only one assailant was apprehended.

Tymesha Wearing, the attacker, was convicted of hate crimes – which the City of Brotherly Love lists as summary offenses. She was sentenced in February of this year to 11.5 to 23 months of house arrest for aggravated assault and conspiracy charges related to her role in the assault. Wearing will be eligible for parole upon completion of 18 months of home confinement, 120 hours of community service, an apology letter addressed to Stephens and court-monitored anger management program.

Meanwhile, Stephens became a prominent activist for Philadelphia's LGBT community. He urged lawmakers to revise the Keystone State's hate crimes statute to include protections for LGBT individuals. In 2021, Stephens and other activists stood by Krasner to help launch the LGBTQ+ Advisory Board – which aims to be a source of information and resources for victims and survivors of crime within the community. "I went to class the next day I was beaten, because let me tell you something: No one is going to steal my pride, no one is going to steal my power. We deserve better than we have gotten; we are human beings," he said in March.
