SANCTUARY OVERLOAD: Texas sends more buses full of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to Democrat-controlled sanctuary cities
By Laura Harris // Oct 05, 2023

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Department of Emergency Management to deploy additional buses to the border towns of Eagle Pass and El Paso to transport illegal immigrants from the Texas-Mexico border to Democrat-led and self-proclaimed "sanctuary cities."

"President Biden's continued refusal to secure our border allows thousands of people to illegally cross into Texas and our country every day," said Abbott. He emphasized that Texas will continue to deploy as many buses as necessary to address the challenges posed by the surge in illegal migrants. (Related: Outgoing Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot pleads with Texas Gov. According to El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser, the city is dealing with the arrival of over 2,000 illegals per day. Approximately two-thirds of the new arrivals are single men, while around 32 percent are families, and just two percent are unaccompanied children. This surge has strained the city's shelter capacity and resources and the city has reached a "breaking point."

Meanwhile, Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas Jr. revealed that over 6,000 illegal immigrants had entered his city in just two days, overwhelming the small town with a population of around 28,000. Salinas signed a seven-day emergency declaration late last month to request financial resources to support the additional services required due to the influx of illegal immigrants.

In response to the crisis, buses carrying dozens of illegal immigrants have departed from Eagle Pass to destinations such as New York City and Chicago to address the influx of illegal immigrants.

Abbott and Biden clash on their border policies

A pecan farm in Eagle Pass has become a microcosm of the larger conflict unfolding along the Rio Grande, shining a spotlight on the contradictory policies at the state and federal levels as tensions escalate.

Abbott, armed with a $10 billion budget, has deployed a formidable force comprised of Texas state police and National Guard troops. He also used security measures that include makeshift walls and barbed wire fences along the border.

Additionally, the governor ordered the installation of a marine barrier equipped with spinning buoys and a submerged net in the river to deter swimmers attempting to cross the Rio Grande.

These state forces have established their presence on gravel river islands, where they clear vegetation and proudly plant the Texas state flag. Camouflaged National Guard personnel and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers have been stationed along the riverbank, and boats, helicopters, drones, and police from other states like Florida have been called upon to bolster the military-like operation.

In 2022, the Biden administration reportedly proposed a controversial plan to permanently open the country's northern border with Canada and the southern border with Mexico. The news initially surfaced through an announcement by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who disclosed that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had presented the proposal.

The consequences of the clash between Texas and the federal government are acutely evident along the border up until now. Aspiring illegal immigrants now face long lines as they navigate thousands of yards of razor wire. Some take their chances by attempting to cross the river, searching for gaps in Texas's defenses, or seeking assistance from sympathetic Border Patrol agents.

Despite Texas' extensive efforts, Border Patrol officers often find ways to circumvent the obstacles. In certain instances, groups of immigrants manage to traverse thousands of yards to a point beyond the barbed wire and patrols, where Border Patrol vehicles await them. Once these individuals are in Border Patrol custody, the Texas state troopers and DPS officers have limited authority to intervene.
