Hillary Clinton taunts Ron DeSantis, Republicans by siding with Disney in fight against “Parental Rights in Education”
By Belle Carter // Apr 24, 2023

Former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton signified her siding with Disney as the entertainment giant continues its "war" against Republicans and those who support parental rights, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

"As Republicans declare war on Disney, I know whose side I'm on," Clinton tweeted on Tuesday, April 18, attaching a photo of her and her family posing with one of Disney's popular characters Donald Duck.

DeSantis' clash with Disney started when the company spoke out against his "Parental Rights in Education" plan last year, which has been nicknamed by the Left as the "Don't Say Gay" bill. The proposal limits discussions about gender identity and sexuality in public schools.

In January DeSantis announced a plan to replace Disney's self-governance with a state-run board. A month later, he signed a bill to accomplish just that. "The corporate kingdom finally comes to an end," he stated.

The Sunshine State governor's ongoing battle with the mass media conglomerate intensified after he said Monday, April 17, that the state might consider building a prison or another park near the land owned by the company.

"If you look at this whole special district, Walt Disney Corporation obviously owns a lot of it, but the district owns other lands," DeSantis said at a press conference. "Now people are like, what should we do with this land? People have said: Maybe create a state park, maybe try to do more amusement parks. Someone even said maybe you need another state prison. Who knows?"

Meanwhile, Twitter users denounced Clinton for favoring "the groomers," citing Disney's recent attempts to "sexualize children."

"We all used to love Disney [until] they started trying to sexualize our children," former Arizona congressional candidate Josh Barnett said. "IDC [I don't care] what grown adults do or what they think they are but stay away from our kids! Gay or straight, sexualization of any kind should never happen!"

Moreover, Disney's Orlando theme park will host "the largest LGBTQ+ conference in the world" organized by Out & Equal. The said event aims to advance "lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights in the workplace."

The entertainment empire has also ramped up its efforts to include aspects of critical race theory in content aimed at children. (Related: Get woke, go broke: Disney to fire 7,000 employees after rolling out disgusting movies aimed at indoctrinating children into LGBT cult.)

Disney ready to escalate "war" with DeSantis

People, who declined to be named in order to speak freely about the issues, revealed that Disney prepares to escalate its "war" with DeSantis and the GOP. The company is pushing lobbyists to step up their efforts to influence the Republican-controlled state Legislature and to target land use-related bills that could hurt the company.

But Republican Florida state Sen. Blaise Ingoglia warned Disney not to fight back, as he stood next to DeSantis at a news conference Monday. "I have a couple of words for Disney. You are not going to win this fight. This governor will," Ingoglia said. "One word of advice for Disney going forward: let it go. Just let it go."

During the same event, the governor also vowed to nullify an agreement that would allow the Orlando amusement park to circumvent a special governing district board filled with DeSantis appointees.

Following the press conference, Disney executives called on lobbyists to keep an eye on any Florida bills and to start aggressively working against them. There is a particular interest in combating legislation related to land use following DeSantis' remarks, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

The same source also told CNBC that one of the land-related bills lobbyists will be monitoring carefully is CS/SB 1604: Land Use and Development Regulations. Ingoglia introduced the said bill in the Senate and an identical measure was put forward in the state House.

Both chambers have introduced amendments that could affect Disney. The measures would allow a "newly elected or appointed governing body of the independent special district," such as the DeSantis-appointed governing body of the Disney district, to review any development agreements and have the option to vote on whether that district will readopt that original development deal.
