President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris drove that point home again in recent days as they exploited the anniversary of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in order to push a 'voting rights' bill that federalizes all elections and in a way that helps Democrats.
In her speech, Harris demanded that the Senate pass the misnamed "For the People Act," which has already been passed by the House, in order to 'save' American democracy. She also called for the passage of other voting legislation, all of which combined would impose federal rules for elections and overturn all state laws aimed at shoring up election integrity, such as requiring voter ID and limiting absentee balloting.
“Here, in this very building, a decision will be made about whether we uphold the right to vote and ensure free and fair election,” Harris said during a speech in Statutory Hall. “Let’s be clear: We must pass the voting rights bills that are now before the Senate.”
She went on to claim that the protests on Capitol Hill in response to Trump's alleged 2020 election loss show just how 'fragile' our democracy had become -- to say nothing of the months' worth of Black Lives Matter looting and rioting following the death of George Floyd.
“The fragility of democracy is this, that if we are not vigilant, if we do not defend it, democracy simply will not stand. It will falter, and fail,” she said, adding, falsely, that the Jan. 6 protesters were really trying to overthrow democracy, Breitbart News reported.
“We cannot let our future be decided by those bent on silencing our voices, overturning our votes, and peddling lies and misinformation by some radical faction that may be newly resurgent but whose roots run old and deep," she lied.
Biden, meanwhile, did not directly address the voting legislation but he did rip Republican efforts in GOP-led states to pass voter integrity bills.
Biden went on to present himself as a defender of democracy against a “mob” allegedly fueled by his predecessor.
“I will stand in this breach, I will defend this nation, I will allow no one to place a dagger at the throat of democracy,” he said. “We will make sure the will of the people is heard, that the ballot prevails, not violence.”
First and foremost, America is not a "democracy" it is a republic and Democrats know that; they repeatedly use the term 'democracy' because that is what they want -- a 'mob rule' system that they can manipulate for victory.
Secondly, the legislation they seek to pass is built on a premise narrative that their party initiated, following GOP presidential victories in 2000, 2004, and 2016, each of which they claimed were illegitimate (it's only a legitimate election when a Democrat wins, you see).
They went all out following Trump's victory over the very criminal and compromised Hillary Clinton, claiming, falsely, for years that Trump only 'won' because Russia helped him cheat.
Now that Democrats are on the cusp of a congressional blowout in the 2022 midterm elections, they are laying the groundwork to claim those victories will be illegitimate too, and further 'proof' of why we need to federalize elections.
Democrats cannot win consistently in enough places around the country to keep power, so they have to cheat, as the last election cycle proved.
