Republican leaders vow to haul Twitter execs before House committees to grill them about censorship of conservatives
By JD Heyes // Dec 07, 2022

Leading Republican lawmakers in the House have vowed to call current and former Twitter executives before various committees to ask them about why they were involved in censoring vital information put out by right-leaning media organizations and conservatives ahead of the 2020 election.

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), who is expected to take over the House Oversight Committee, pledged during a press conference earlier this week he would seek to learn, among other things, why those Twitter execs banded together to help the deep state crush stories reporting information gleaned from Hunter Biden's abandoned laptop.

Emails and video from the laptop show that Hunter was a serial drug abuser who was involved in allegedly crooked deals with foreign entities and that a percentage of what he earned from those deals, made on his father's name, went back to Joe Biden in the form of kickbacks.

“Every employee at Twitter who was involved in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story will have an opportunity to come before Congress and explain their actions to the American people,” he told Fox News.

“When we announced the investigation of the Biden family and referenced material from the laptop, many in the mainstream media said this is just a conspiracy theory,” he told host Sean Hannity.

“The mainstream media is still trying to use the old talking points the laptop is somehow Russian disinformation,” he said.

He added on Twitter: “In January, I can promise you this. Every @Twitter employee involved in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story will have an opportunity to come before @GOPoversight and explain their actions to the American people. @elonmusk has provided facts for Americans."

“The days of Big Tech colluding with Democrats to silence legitimate news are numbered. @GOPoversight will hold them accountable,” he noted further.

Since then, the so-called "Twitter Files" have been published at the behest of platform CEO Elon Musk, via investigative journalist Matt Taibbi, who revealed that the platform colluded with the deep state via the FBI and with Democrats to censor Republicans and stifle conservative voices ahead of key elections and during critical periods like when the COVID-19 pandemic was in full force.

In a lengthy Twitter thread, Taibbi begins:

“What you’re about to read is the first installment in a series, based upon thousands of internal documents obtained by sources at Twitter,” the journalist said.

“The ‘Twitter Files’ tell an incredible story from inside one of the world’s largest and most influential social media platforms. It is a Frankensteinian tale of a human-built mechanism grown out the control of its designer,” he said as he then unleashed a torrent of information.

“As time progressed, however, the company was slowly forced to add those barriers. Some of the first tools for controlling speech were designed to combat the likes of spam and financial fraudsters,” Taibbi continued, adding:

Slowly, over time, Twitter staff and executives began to find more and more uses for these tools. Outsiders began petitioning the company to manipulate speech as well: first a little, then more often, then constantly.

By 2020, requests from connected actors to delete tweets were routine. One executive would write to another: “More to review from the Biden team.” The reply would come back: “Handled.”
