Flashback: Socialist Bernie Sanders LOVES food lines, but we wonder how much sidewalk feces he wants to go along with them
By JD Heyes // Feb 26, 2019

Last week, Sen. Bernie Sanders officially launched his second bid for the presidency with a lie: He has agreed to run as a Democrat (again) though he’s not really a Democrat, he’s officially an “Independent.”

But that “Independent” label is also a lie because the only reason he chooses to list himself that way is that “Socialist” — which is his real political affiliation — doesn’t go over well with most Americans.

In any event, misidentifying his party allegiance won’t be the last lie the long-serving Vermont senator will tell. When he starts drilling down on his economic plans and policies, he’ll try to sell them as legitimate and viable, though socialism has a long and horrid history of failure, as we’ve seen in example after example around the world, the latest one playing out (violently, as usual) in Venezuela.

In fact, he’s already working on his schtick.

“You will recall, you may recall, but in 2016, many of the ideas I talked about: Medicare for all, raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, making public colleges and universities tuition-free,” Sanders said during an interview with CBS News. "You know what's happened over three years? All of those ideas and many more are part of the political mainstream.”

Well, Sanders’ economic ideas are indeed part of the political conversation, but is Marxism “mainstream?” That might be a stretch. Then again, let’s remember that Bernie can’t really be honest about his true political affiliation or about the deleterious effects of socialism on a society.

For instance, he could never be truthful about his love for food lines, which are commonplace in countries where socialism and Marxism have been fully implemented. Such lines become commonplace because grocery stores — denied the profit motive and mandated by government to provide food at prices far below cost — can’t afford to keep shelves stocked. (Related: Venezuela was my home, and socialism destroyed it. Slowly, it will destroy America, too.)

“You know, it's funny. Sometimes American journalists talk about how bad a country is when people are lining up for food. That's a good thing. In other countries, people don't line up for food. The rich get the food and the poor starve to death," Sanders observed back in the 1970s.

That doesn’t even make sense but then again, neither do socialist policies. And yet…

Venezuela-style socialism won’t play in states Democrats need to win in 2020

Okay, so we might be tempted to proclaim that Sanders was making this observation ‘so long ago.’ That would be a credible argument if the Vermont senator had changed his point of view over the years, but he hasn’t. In fact, Sanders has doubled-, tripled-, and quadrupled-down on socialism over the years. And he was so pro-Soviet-style economy back in those days he’s lucky he didn’t get tossed in prison for providing aid and comfort to our Cold War rival.

"Sanders is also a big defender of Marxism and communism, an ideology responsible for the deaths of more than 100 million people,” Pavlich wrote.

Meanwhile, as Sanders continues to burnish his Marxist/Socialist bonafides, Democrat Party establishment types are increasingly concerned about the party’s extreme Leftward lurch.

As The National Sentinel reported Saturday, Democratic strategists worry that POTUS Donald Trump will use the far-Left economic ideals of Sanders and other 2020 contenders in a convincing fashion.

“The big progressive programs are popular in a caucus or primary electorate, but probably don’t move the needle among voters who want to find someone who will change Washington by tilting the system to favor people in the middle — not the very rich or the very poor,” said Jeff Link, an Iowa Democrat who worked for former President Barack Obama’s campaign.

Other GOP strategists note that there are really only a handful of states — many in the upper Midwest as well as Florida — that will be in play, electorally, in 2020, and it’s hard to imagine that Sanders’ socialism will go over well in most of them.
