The March for Life Education and Defense Fund has revealed that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will be the keynote speaker in their upcoming 52nd annual event on Jan. 24.
According to the announcement, the event, themed "Life: Why We March," will feature DeSantis as the keynote speaker, along with a host of other pro-life advocates and leaders.
Other notable speakers include longtime advocate for pro-life legislation Republican Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey, famous pro-life surfer and author Bethany Hamilton, obstetrician Catherine Wheeler, abortion survivor Josiah Presley, President Lila Rose of Live Action, CEO Beverly Jacobson of Mama Bear Care and incoming president Jennie of the March for Life.
"Our goal this year is to remind and reignite everyone – politicians, legislators, families and women – in the truth that every life, unborn and born, has inherent dignity, meaning and value and as such is always worth fighting for," the organization said in its press release. "Our speakers will serve as witnesses to emphasizes (sic) the joy and beauty of life and the dedication of the pro-life movement." The March for Life, originally launched in response to the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, continues to be a rallying point for those committed to protecting the rights of the unborn. This year's event aims to reignite the pro-life movement and remind both politicians and citizens of the inherent dignity of every life, from conception to natural death.
"We are overjoyed to welcome these inspiring pro-life leaders at this year's 52nd March for Life. For the past 52 years, the March for Life has powerfully witnessed the tragedy of abortion, while calling for stronger protections for women and the unborn. This year's speakers will address the 2025 theme – 'Life: Why We March' which reminds us of the basic truth that every life has inherent human dignity from the start." said Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life Education and Defense Fund.
In May 2023, Florida's Heartbeat Act was implemented. This led to a significant decline in the number of abortions performed in the state, saving an estimated 20,000 lives. The number of abortions dropped from 84,052 in the previous year to 60,755, marking a 27 percent decrease.
DeSantis, known for his unwavering pro-life stance, played a pivotal role in this achievement. DeSantis fought tirelessly against Amendment 4, a ballot measure that sought to enshrine abortion rights in Florida's state constitution. Despite the pro-abortion camp spending 112 million, Amendment 4 was defeated in November 2023, ensuring that the Heartbeat Act remains in effect.
"The loss of Amendment 4 was very significant," Charlotte Lozier Institute statistician Dr. Michael New said in an interview with Jonathon Van Maren of LifeSiteNews. "It showed pro-lifers could win a direct democracy election in a politically competitive state. It also showed that pro-lifers could win despite being outspent by tens of millions of dollars."
"The defeat of Amendment 4 also keeps Florida's Heartbeat Act and other pro-life laws in effect. This is very important. Even though Florida has a conservative reputation, its abortion rate was 5th highest in the country in 2020, according to the Guttmacher Institute. As such, the fact that Florida's Heartbeat Law will remain in effect will doubtless save thousands of lives."
DeSantis' recent success in defeating a proposed amendment that would have declared abortion a "right" in the Florida Constitution has earned him praise from pro-life leaders.
"The American pro-life movement can learn a great deal from the example of Governor DeSantis," New said. "He demonstrated the best leadership of any pro-life elected official facing an abortion ballot proposition."
