CRY SESSION: Biden State Department holds therapy session after Trump’s election win
By Ramon Tomey // Nov 17, 2024

The Department of State (DOS) under the administration of outgoing President Joe Biden has organized a therapy session for employees who were shocked by President-elect Donald Trump's second election victory.

Four sources with knowledge of the meeting disclosed the event to the Washington Free Beacon, adding that it pushed through on Nov. 8. The Employee Consultation Services office under the DOS's Bureau of Medical Services (BMS) hosted the session. The one-hour session centered on "managing stress during change" and encouraged employees to discuss their feelings about the results of the presidential election.

"Change is a constant in our lives, but it can often bring about stress and uncertainty," the email said. "Join us for an insightful webinar where we delve into effective stress management techniques to help you navigate these challenging times. This session will provide tips and practical strategies for managing stress and maintaining your well-being."

The Nov. 8 session was led by a licensed clinical provider. Also on Nov. 8, the DOS's Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA) held a group discussion separate from that of the BMS. Three sources briefed on the matter confirmed this to the Free Beacon, adding that Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf and Acting Under Secretary for Political Affairs John Bass led the discussion. Bass notably took over the position vacated by his predecessor Victoria Nuland, who stepped down in March. One of the three sources described the NEA's meeting as a "cry session" over Trump's victory. Staffers at the bureau, which oversees American diplomacy in the Middle East, purportedly discussed the difficulty of Trump's victory. Leaf and Bass, meanwhile, urged employees to share their feelings in private settings.

Biden-Harris State Department now WOKE and WEAK

One U.S. official with knowledge of the meetings lamented how the DOS under Biden and outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris has become woke and weak. They noted that there is "lots to unf**k" at the department after four years under the Democrats.

"For four years, within the rank and file, there has been an overemphasis on people's feelings – often with a college campus-like fervor – rather than the work of advancing America's interests," they told the Free Beacon. "This meeting was hopefully the last gasp of that."

But according to a second source briefed on the private discussions, the therapy sessions won't end even if Trump is inaugurated as president in January next year. They suggested that "the State Department is filled with partisan Democrats who are unwilling or unable to faithfully serve in the Trump administration."

Under the leadership of outgoing Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the DOS has led the Democratic administration's drive to implement diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. He established the department's Office of Diversity and Inclusion in February 2021, shortly after a White House edict instructing the federal government to ramp up DEI initiatives. In September, the media agency reported that the DOS's top DEI officials receive almost $200,000 in salaries – all on the taxpayer dime.

This was not the first time the State Department held therapy sessions over trivial matters. Last May, it organized several sessions following a system-wide email glitch that assigned random and often incorrect pronouns to employees. At the time, the Free Beacon reported that the department had urged "any employee who feels hurt or upset as a result of this unfortunate mistake" to use its mental health services.

The DOS did not respond to a request for comment on the matter sent by the Free Beacon.
