Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei calls for GLOBAL MILITARY COALITION against Israel
By Ramon Tomey // Oct 31, 2024

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called for a global military coalition to go against Israel, following Tel Aviv's airstrikes against Tehran's military sites.

"A global coalition must be formed, as well as a political coalition, an economic coalition and – if necessary – a military coalition against the malicious Zionist regime that is committing the most brutal war crimes today," Khamenei said as per Iranian state media. But the Washington Times wrote in a report that the Iranian leader said Israel's strikes shouldn't be "magnified."

The ayatollah's remarks ostensibly referred to Israel's military campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip and its attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Both Hamas (formally the Islamic Resistance Movement) and Hezbollah (Party of God) are backed by Tehran.

Other top Iranian officials also vowed that Israel will pay for its Oct. 26 airstrikes. Iranian First Vice President Mohammed Reza Aref said the "perpetrators" of the attack "will receive an appropriate response."

As per an Oct. 27 report by the Associated Press, satellite photos showed Israel fighter planes targeting Iran's Parchin military base. The facility located southeast of the capital was suspected by the International Atomic Energy Agency of being the location where the Islamic republic conducted tests on high explosives that could trigger a nuclear weapon.

Israeli forces also targeted the nearby Khojir military base, which allegedly hides an underground tunnel system and missile production sites.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said on Oct. 27 that the airstrike against Tehran achieved its goals. "We promised we would respond to the Iranian attack … and we struck," he said. "The attack in Iran was precise and powerful, achieving all of its objectives."

Iran bolsters alliances with other U.S. adversaries

"The long-simmering Israel-Iran military tensions have reached a pivotal moment after spilling into direct conflict several times this month, threatening to drag the Middle East into a broader, more deadly conflict," the Washington Times pointed out.

"The supreme leader's strong rhetoric reflects Iran's strengthening alliances with China, Russia and North Korea – all leading U.S. adversaries. It suggests those autocratic allies could ultimately stand with Iran against Israel."

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the Oct. 26 airstrikes were necessary to defend against relentless attacks by Hezbollah, the Houthi rebels and the Iranian military. The attacks began after Hamas' Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on Oct. 7, 2023 – which saw the group kill over 1,000 Israelis.

Early this month, Tehran fired a barrage of nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on Oct. 1 in the so-called "Operation True Promise 2." The missile strike was retaliation for the killings of senior Hezbollah and Hamas officials, according to the Iranian government. Since Oct. 7, Israel has killed several key figures in Iran's "axis of resistance." These include Hamas leaders Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar, and Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah. It has also taken out several high-ranking officials in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps such as Brig. Gen. Abbas Nilforoushan, who was killed in the same airstrike that neutralized Nasrallah.

Washington has also stepped in. U.S. negotiators returned to Qatar on Oct. 27 for another round of negotiations to secure a ceasefire in Gaza. Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in the region to push for a truce.

Meanwhile, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has threatened to begin withholding some military aid to Israel if it does not improve the humanitarian conditions in Gaza. But Israel is pointing its fingers at Hamas for the suffering experienced by the Palestinian people.
