Liz Cheney endorses Kamala Harris, parrots Democratic lies about abortion
By Laura Harris // Oct 24, 2024

Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president and her pro-abortion narratives.

Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, was known in Congress for her staunch pro-life voting record. She consistently earned perfect 100 percent pro-life ratings and zero percent pro-abortion ratings from organizations like the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) during her tenure in the House of Representatives.

The only exception came in the 2021 to 2022 legislative session, where the NRLC gave her a 93 percent and PPAF a 20 percent due to her vote to establish a federal right to contraception access and her absence on two pro-life bill votes.

But after her primary defeat in 2022, Cheney became one of the most outspoken Republican opponents of former President Donald Trump. Her sharp criticism of Trump alienated her from much of her Republican base. And just this October, Cheney appeared alongside Harris in key battleground states, including Wisconsin, to address the growing concerns over state abortion restrictions.

In Waukesha County, Cheney spoke about the impact of recent abortion bans on women: "I have been very troubled, deeply troubled by what I have watched happen in so many states. I have been troubled by the extent to which you have women who, as the vice president said, in some cases, have died, who can't get medical treatment that they need because providers are worried about criminal liability."

Cheney criticizes Trump for his anti-abortion stance

Additionally, Cheney has been repeating several misleading claims of Harris and her allies that anti-abortion legislation harms women.

"Even if you are pro-life, as I am, I do not believe, for example, that the state of Texas ought to have the right, as they're currently suing to do, to get access to women's medical records," she said. "There are some very fundamental and fundamentally dangerous things that have happened, and so I think that it's crucially important for us to find ways to have the federal government play a role and protect women from some of the worst harms that we're seeing."

Aside from backing Harris for her presidential bid and pro-abortion narratives, Cheney also criticized Trump and his position on abortion.

"Look at the difference in the way that Donald Trump is handling this issue. You know, Donald Trump, at one point, called for criminal penalties for women," Cheney said. "Now, you know, he's been now trying to, you know, sort of be all over the place on this issue, although he expresses great pride for what's happened, and I think the bottom line on this, as on so many other issues, is, you know, you just can't count on him. You cannot trust him. We've seen the man that he is. We've seen the cruelty."
