Ford Motor Company BACKTRACKS on push for pure EVs, dealing a serious blow to Biden-Harris admin’s green agenda
By Ramon Tomey // Sep 03, 2024

The Ford Motor Company has backtracked on its earlier push for pure battery-powered electric vehicles (EVs) in favor of hybrid options.

The automaker said it is changing its EV strategy and backing away from the all-electric three-row sports utility vehicle (SUV) it originally planned. Instead, Ford will pivot its efforts toward the creation of hybrid gas-electric vehicles for its next rollout of three-row SUVs.

"Our focus here is to remake Ford into a higher-growth, higher-margin, more capital-efficient and durable business, and that means these vehicles need to be profitable," Ford Chief Financial Officer John Lawler told members of the media during an Aug. 21 call. "And if they're not profitable based on where the customer is in the market, we will pivot and adjust and make those tough decisions."

Tom Barrett, a Republican congressional candidate for Michigan, commented on Ford's change of plans. He told Fox News: "It is abundantly clear that the federal government's push to ram EVs down everyone's throats was unwanted and unworkable." Barrett also warned that the Biden-Harris administration's EV mandate "will dismantle what remains of Michigan's industrial base, destroy American jobs and make us more dependent on Communist China."

The Michigan-based Ford's move indicates more defeats to the Democrats' EV initiatives, many of which were backed by Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris during her almost four years as vice president.

According to an examination of her records conducted by Fox News, Harris was heavily involved in the push to eliminate traditional vehicles with combustion engines. Starting back to her career as U.S. senator for California, Harris was one of the original co-signers of the Green New Deal pushed by U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and U.S. Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA). The 2019 legislation, which worked to establish a blueprint to shift the nation to 100 percent "clean energy" by 2040, failed in the U.S. Senate.

Kamala also spearheaded Clean School Bus initiative that UNDER-DELIVERED

After President Joe Biden won the 2020 elections through vote fraud, Harris as vice president continued spearheading climate change initiatives. One notable project she helmed was the Clean School Bus program. The program, which was created almost three years ago as a provision under the Biden administration's 2021 infrastructure bill, had the backing of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The measure initially earmarked $5 billion for the program, but the EPA has since made $1 billion in grants available to help deliver almost 2,500 electric school buses to school districts nationwide.

"We are announcing nearly $1 billion to fund clean school buses across the nation. As part of our work to tackle the climate crisis, the historic funding we are announcing today is an investment in our children, their health, and their education. It also strengthens our economy by investing in American manufacturing and America's workforce," the vice president said of the program earlier this year.

According to Fox News, the federal government named Harris and EPA Administrator Michael Regan as the point persons for the program. But the Washington Free Beacon disclosed in a July report that it has only delivered 60 school buses powered by either electric battery or propane.

Aside from the Clean School Bus program, the vice president was also charged to help lead the EV Charging Action Plan in December 2021 – another part of the 2021 infrastructure bill. The $7.5 billion federal program sought to install 500,000 EV charging stations across the country. But as of May, it has only built eight. Auto industry executive Bob Lutz told Fox News in April: "The problem with the whole EV movement is that there was a colossal amount of hype behind it, largely from … the liberal mainstream media. And of course, the government was pushing it because of their climate change policies. [But] it just plain wasn't going to happen – and yes, it did come too soon and too fast."
