UNHINGED: Survey finds 33% of Democrats think Trump assassination attempt was staged
By Laura Harris // Jul 24, 2024

A recent Morning Consult poll has found that around a third of Democrats believe that former President Donald Trump staged the assassination attempt against himself.

The poll, conducted after the assassination attempt, reveals some startling beliefs and conspiracy theories among Democrats. For instance, 33 percent of those surveyed think the attack was a staged event, purportedly never intended to be fatal. Additionally, the poll shows that 20 percent of the respondents consider the theory that the shooting was staged to be "credible."

Moreover, 38 percent of those surveyed blame Trump for the violence in American politics, attributing the incident to his own actions, while 29 percent point fingers at Biden's rhetoric. (Related: X user: FBI and Secret Service were complicit in Trump assassination attempt.)

"The poll suggests that over 1/3 of Democratic voters think Trump is Neo from the Matrix, able to dodge a bullet with his head as the bullet travels 3,000 feet per second," Colin Rugg commented. This statement underscores the oddity of such beliefs in the political discourse.

These revelations stand in stark contrast to long-standing media narratives that accuse Trump supporters of fabricating "fake news" and engaging in conspiracy theories.

Leftists have voiced their frustration over failed assassination attempt against Trump

Left-leaning individuals also voiced their frustration over the failed assassination attempt against Trump.

Jenna Howell, an FBI employee, shared a meme on Facebook mocking the failed assassination attempt on Trump. The meme, depicting the Grim Reaper playing an arcade game where a claw fails to grab a toy resembling Trump, was captioned "Awwww so close." Howell, who works in the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and holds top-secret clearance, has been vocal about her opposition to the Second Amendment.

Adding fuel to the fire, Jacqueline Marsaw, a staffer for Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), tweeted a call for improved marksmanship for anyone attempting to assassinate Trump in the future.

"I don't condone violence but please get you some shooting lessons so you don't miss next time ooops [sic] that wasn't me talking," Marsaw posted on X.

Denver lawmaker Rep. Steven Woodrow (D-Colo.) also faced public outcry for his post referring to Trump as the "devil" following the shooting. Woodrow later apologized, stressing the importance of resolving differences peacefully through the ballot box, not violence.

The public reaction has been intense, with many calling for disciplinary actions against Howell and Marsaw. Critics argue that such comments are inappropriate for individuals in positions of public service and demand investigations into the culture that allows such behavior.

There were also notable instances linking Democrats to the attempt on Trump's life. On July 8, President Joe Biden posted this on X: "It's time to put Trump in a bullseye." This was interpreted by many as a call for violence against the former president.

Furthermore, Democrat lawmakers, including Rep. Bennie Thompson and members of the Black Caucus, sponsored House Resolution 8081 to strip Trump of his Secret Service protection before the Butler rally. The proposal added to the controversy surrounding the incident.
