White House calls border crossers “newcomers” – THEY’RE STILL ILLEGALS!
By Ava Grace // Mar 05, 2024

The White House is now pertaining to unlawful border crossers as "newcomers" – a euphemism to conceal the fact that they are illegally on U.S. soil.

According to the National Pulse, the executive branch reportedly used the term in a fact sheet describing the Senate agreement on Ukraine and border funding – which had the backing of President Joe Biden. The use of such a term, the outlet added, obfuscates the difference between legal and illegal immigrants.

The White House's use of "newcomers" to describe illegals did not sit well with several Republican congressmen, with some of them taking to social media to air out their disgust.

Wisconsin Rep. Tom Tiffany wrote on X: "Biden is now calling illegal aliens 'newcomers' – this is absurd. He has no interest in putting an end to this invasion. He just wants to use more of your tax dollars to aid and abet it."

Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde agreed with his colleague's sentiments, calling the use of the "newcomer" term "insanity." He continued: "'Newcomers' are flooding our country with fentanyl … [and are] costing American taxpayers nearly $500 billion. Biden wants to normalize his intentional illegal invasion."

Other House GOP members who criticized the move on their social media accounts include Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs, Minnesota Rep. Pete Stauber and Texas Rep. August Pfluger. Even the House GOP Conference's official X account decried the White House's use of "newcomers" to describe illegals.

"This is a catastrophe by design," the House GOP Conference wrote. "Biden is not serious about stopping the illegal immigration into the United States."

Aside from the use of "newcomers," the fact sheet for the border bill also mentions the allocation of $1.4 billion for "cities and states who are providing critical services" to these illegals. Moreover, it also pledges that the work permits of "qualified" illegals will be expedited. But House GOP members argue that the proposal would normalize high levels of unlawful immigration and achieve little in terms of curbing crossings at the border and drug trafficking. Use of "newcomers" comes ahead of Biden's trip to southern border

The release of the White House fact sheet came ahead of Biden's Feb. 29 trip to the southern border, trailing after former President Donald Trump. The incumbent visited Brownsville, Texas – which has seen very few crossings compared to other locations. In contrast, Trump visited Eagle Pass, Texas – the crossing that sees the heaviest traffic.

White House officials have also pushed back against critics of the border deal, arguing that it represents a "genuine commitment" to border security. They cited various aspects in the proposal to back this up – such as expanding the Border Patrol staff, amending asylum rules, strengthening law enforcement’s authority to tackle drug smuggling and expanding visa and guest worker programs.

Since taking office, the Biden administration has sought to undo many of the strict immigration policies implemented by former President Donald Trump, advocating for a more humane approach to immigration that includes the expansion of legal pathways for migrants and asylum seekers.

Republicans advocate for stricter border enforcement, including the continuation or expansion of physical barriers, and stricter asylum rules to deter illegal crossings. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, the number of encounters at the border has increased by nearly 1 million people every year since fiscal year 2021.
