Biden attacks Trump on abortion, healthcare
By Arsenio Toledo // Dec 01, 2023

President Joe Biden has returned to the campaign trail, this time by attacking Republican frontrunner and former President Donald Trump over abortion and healthcare.

Biden's latest attacks against Trump represent the clearest sign that he is being treated as the Republican Party's de facto nominee. Biden's latest statements warn of the supposed consequences for voters if his political rival returns to the White House.

"Donald Trump and extreme MAGA Republicans are determined to destroy American democracy," said Biden at a fundraiser in Colorado. "The choice facing us could not be more stark."

This is part of the Biden campaign's latest push to put Trump's policy proposal front and center, seeking to dissuade voters from voting for the former president by casting him as extreme compared to the supposedly more moderate Biden. In the campaign fundraiser, Biden sought to take away support from Trump by pointing out his role in renewed restrictions on abortion in the United States, saying that his rival "was running for president bragging he killed Roe v. Wade."

"The only reason abortion is banned in America is because of Donald Trump," he added. "The reason fundamental rights have been stripped away from the American people for the first time in history is because of Donald Trump."

Trump "seriously looking at alternatives" for Obamacare

Biden and his campaign have also been focusing on the president's supposed work to improve American healthcare and costs related to it, seeking to draw a distinction from Trump's approach, which involves repealing the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

"If Trump gets his way, it's all gone," said Biden, who noted that Republicans had failed on multiple occasions to repeal it, including when they controlled both chambers of Congress. Biden further claimed that Trump's proposed repeal would leave 40 million Americans without health coverage they obtained under Obamacare.

"My predecessor's – once again, God love him – call for cuts that could rip away health insurance for tens of millions of Americans – they just don't give up," said Biden during a different campaign event. "But guess what? We won't let these things happen."

Trump has in recent days called for Republicans to "never give up" on trying to repeal Obamacare, adding that he was "seriously looking at alternatives."

The former president warned that Obamacare's cost to taxpayers is "out of control," and that these added expenses haven't even translated to better healthcare for Americans. He admitted his previous failure to repeal the law, marking it as "a low point for the Republican Party."

Biden's campaign plans to run a series of new healthcare-focused television ads, especially in Las Vegas in the key battleground state of Nevada. This new series of campaign ads is seeking to also call attention to the various changes Biden has supposedly made to improve healthcare costs and protect healthcare access.
