MASK OFF: Former British lawmaker and LGBT advocate Ivor Caplin ARRESTED in pedophile sting operation
By Ramon Tomey // Jan 14, 2025

  • Former lawmaker Ivor Caplin, a prominent figure in Tony Blair's government, was arrested on suspicion of engaging in online sexual communications with a child.
  • Caplin's arrest, captured in a Facebook livestream, highlights concerns about child abuse and cover-ups within British politics, particularly given his public image as an LGBT supporter.
  • Caplin's suspension from the Labour Party last year over "disturbing behavior" raises questions about the party's handling of allegations and its reluctance to address these issues.
  • Caplin's case is part of a larger pattern of abuse by high-ranking officials, with the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse exposing systemic failures in addressing child sexual abuse.
  • The incident underscores the need for confronting the dark truths of abuse in British politics and ensuring that no one, regardless of their position, is above the law.

The arrest of former Member of Parliament (MP) Ivor Caplin on suspicion of engaging in online sexual communications with a child has sent shockwaves throughout British politics.

The former MP for Hove from 1997 to 2005 and once-prominent figure in the government of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair was detained in Brighton following a sting operation Saturday, Jan. 11, by pedophile hunters. Caplin's arrest, which was captured in a Facebook livestream viewed by over 36,000 people, reignited concerns about the pervasive culture of child abuse and cover-ups within the British political elite.

The MP's arrest is particularly jarring given his public persona as a vocal supporter of the LGBT community. His social media feeds filled with LGBT content suggest a man who positioned himself as a progressive advocate. But this appears to have been a facade, a screen behind which he allegedly hid his predatory behavior.

Interestingly, Caplin was suspended from the Labour Party last year over unspecified "disturbing behavior" – with the move raising alarming questions. If the allegations were related to sexual abuse of children, why were they not reported to authorities sooner?

Labour's reluctance to address these issues is telling. Caplin remained an unofficial spokesman for the party even after his suspension, appearing on GB News to defend incumbent British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and criticize Elon Musk's campaign to expose the grooming gang scandal.

But days after his televised appearance, he was caught attempting to meet a young boy for sex. This brazen hypocrisy underscores a culture of impunity among the political elite, where individuals believe they are above the law.

The dark legacy of CHILD ABUSE in British institutions

Caplin's case is not an isolated one. It is part of a disturbing pattern of behavior among high-ranking officials who have exploited their positions of power to prey on vulnerable children.

In 2020, the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) exposed how British government institutions systematically failed to address allegations of child sexual abuse – with some politicians actively shielding predators. Figures like the later Peter Morrison, private secretary to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and the late Liberal MP for Rochdale Cyril Smith were known or rumored to have engaged in such abuses. They were protected from prosecution, however.

The IICSA report highlights the systemic failures that allowed such abuses to persist. From the 1960s to the 1990s, government institutions turned a blind eye to allegations, shielded abusers and even honored some of them.

For instance, Thatcher pushed for a knighthood for Jimmy Savile despite media revelations about his crimes. The Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE), which campaigned for the normalization of pedophilia, was even allowed to participate in London's Gay Pride March in 1983. PIE existed for 10 years and was disbanded in 1984, a year after it joined the march.

Caplin's case is a stark reminder that the problem is far from resolved. His refusal to specify the nature of his “disturbing behavior” and its broader reluctance to support a public inquiry into the grooming gang scandal suggest a fear of what further revelations might uncover. As the IICSA report noted, there was a "fundamental failure to see the problem and a lack of moral courage to confront it." The victims of these abuses deserve justice, not silence. The arrest of Caplin should serve as a wake-up call for British politics. It is time to confront the dark truths that have been buried for too long and to ensure that no one, regardless of their position, is above the law.
