Never say never: Rumors of Hillary Clinton running for president in 2028 surface
By Belle Carter // Dec 05, 2024

Former First Lady Hillary Clinton has apparently not learned from her mistakes in 2016, with rumors of her running for the 2028 presidential election making the rounds recently.

Talk of the former secretary of state's 2028 bid for the White House followed news of her and former President Bill Clinton, her husband, having a speaking engagement at the 20th anniversary of the Clinton Presidential Center in Arkansas. The Dec. 7 event will see the couple speaking about their past "political and philanthropic work."

Following the event's announcement, a wave of online speculation fueled by conservative commentators emerged. Jason Miller, a senior advisor to the Trump campaign, got the ball rolling with a post on X. He and others opined that Hillary, who failed in her 2016 bid against Trump, may consider taking a chance again at the presidency four years from now.

Many remember that following Hillary's 2016 loss, she ruled out any plans of running for president again. While she has remained active in public service, she claimed that her focus has largely been on initiatives through their foundation. If Hillary were to consider another presidential run, she would be 81 years old at the time.

Others on social media described the prospect as "exciting," with Hillary and outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris possibly facing each other in the 2028 Democratic primaries. But one user went against the grain, writing on X: "A Hillary vs. Kamala primary would be hilarious; just imagine the debates.

Bill had a hard time sleeping for two years after Hillary's loss to Trump

Meanwhile, Bill shared in a memoir released last month that he had a hard time sleeping for two years because of his "outbursts of rage" following his wife's loss to President-elect Donald Trump in 2016. (Related: Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton claims Trump wants to "KILL" and "IMPRISON" his political opponents.)

In "Citizen: My Life After The White House," Bill admitted that "the whole thing is hard for me to write." He continued: "I couldn't sleep for two years after the election. I was so angry, I wasn't fit to be around."

Bill apologized to all those who endured his outbursts of rage, which bothered or bored people who thought it pointless to rehash things that couldn't be changed. He also called the 2016 elections the "darkest election possible in the United States." The 42nd president also pointed his fingers at various entities including "Russian misinformation," former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey for investigating her emails and the hostile "political press" for influencing the outcome of the election in his memoir.

Bill also addressed his controversial relationship with former associate and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, admitting that he did fly with him on the financier's "Lolita Express." However, the former chief executive said he never visited the pedophile's equally infamous estate in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he was accused of trafficking minors and hosting an "underage orgy."

"I had always thought Epstein was odd but had no inkling of the crimes he was committing," he added as he denied ever having set foot on Little St. James, a small private island Epstein owned from 1998 until he died in 2019.

"He hurt a lot of people, but I knew nothing about it, and by the time he was first arrested in 2005, I had stopped contact with him. I've never visited his island."
