GAME ON: Incoming Border Czar Tom Homan to challenge the sanctuary state policies of Illinois and Gov. J.B. Pritzker
By Arsenio Toledo // Nov 19, 2024

President-elect Donald Trump's incoming "border czar," former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Tom Homan, has declared his intention to challenge the sanctuary state policies of Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and to be robust in enforcing immigration law in every state.

In a recent interview with conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk, Homan directly challenged Pritzker's recent statements regarding the state's sanctuary policies.

"Game on. We've got no problem going through him. I've got 20,000 men and women in ICE who are going to do their job with no apology. Congress has enacted [laws] that protect this country. People need to understand … entering this country illegally is a crime," Homan said. "Every illegal alien in this country committed a crime to get here. They're all criminals."

Homan has warned that illegal immigration is a threat to the national security of the United States and that any politician who tries to prevent the enforcement of American immigration law is putting their constituents at risk.

"When you cross that border and overwhelm the Border Patrol, that's when the fentanyl comes across to kill a quarter million people. That's when you have a 600 percent increase in sex trafficking," said Homan. "Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime." "We're gonna enforce the law without apology," he added. "And if any governor wants to stand in the way, go ahead and do it. We'll see what happens. We're not gonna be intimidated."

Homan has been vocal in criticizing the lax enforcement of U.S. border laws which led to America's current migrant crisis. He has stated that the coming mass deportation and anti-illegal immigrant programs of the coming Trump administration will be "well-targeted, planned" and "humane."

Pritzker vows to defend Illinois' sanctuary policies

Homan's brewing spat with Pritzker was started by the Democratic governor when, on Nov. 6, the morning after Trump's victory in the election, Pritzker held a press conference pledging to protect illegal immigrants residing in the state.

"We should be protecting residents of the State of Illinois, even if they're undocumented residents, and providing [them with] a path to citizenship," said Pritzker. "You [Trump] come for my people, you come through me."

Pritzker has also vowed to remain stalwartly opposed to the incoming federal administration's policies, vowing to protect LGBTQ+ residents – especially gender-confused minors seeking so-called "gender-affirming" care – and women who reside in states that restrict or outright ban abortion who come to Illinois for abortion procedures.

Pritzker has also threatened to sue the federal government if it attempts to retaliate against Illinois by withholding federal public safety funds over the state's sanctuary policies.

"To anyone that comes to take away freedom and dignity from Illinoisans, I would remind you that a happy warrior is still a warrior," said Pritzker.

More recently, Pritzker and fellow Democratic Gov. Jared Polis of Colorado announced the creation of a supposedly nonpartisan coalition of governors called the Governors Safeguarding Democracy. Its goal is to create a playbook to "anticipate and swiftly respond to emerging threats" to democracy under a second Trump administration.
