Suspects of arson attacks against ballot drop boxes in Pacific Northwest believed to be ANTIFA operatives
By Ava Grace // Nov 03, 2024

Reports indicate that the recent wave of arson attacks against ballot drop boxes in the American Pacific Northwest were orchestrated by left-wing domestic terrorist organization Antifa.

The ballot boxes that were attacked were in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. The Pacific Northwest has in the past few years been a hotbed for Antifa activity, especially around the time of the Black Lives Matter riots.

Analysts warn that the arson attacks may just be the beginning of a sprawling far-left operation to deprive former President Donald Trump of votes and keep him out of office.

In Portland, the city's police bureau said in a statement that an incendiary device was placed inside the ballot box and used to ignite the fire.

"We don't know the motive behind these acts – it sounds like a series of three at this point – but we do know that acts like this are targeted, and they're intentional. And we're concerned about that intentional act trying to affect the election process," Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Assistant Chief Amanda McMillan said. "We're dedicated to stopping that kind of behavior."

Flame retardants protected all but three ballots from being damaged beyond recognition, and the PPB said in its statement that "voters should be assured that their votes will be counted."

Hundreds of ballots damaged by the attack in Vancouver

However, authorities said hundreds of ballots were likely damaged by the attack in Vancouver. Authorities could be seen scooping charred ballots into a bag after they responded to the attack.

Vancouver is part of Washington's third congressional district. In 2020, the district voted for Trump. In 2022, the district was flipped by Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. This year, it is one of the most hotly contested races in the country, with Perez going up against U.S. Army Special Forces veteran Joe Kent, who lost to Perez by less than 3,000 votes in 2022.

This makes Vancouver a prime target for such sabotage attacks, and Kent himself has warned of potential future attacks against votes.

"Stay focused on driving voter turn-out and early voting, don't be deterred from voting by a cowardly act of terrorism," Kent posted on X. "Vote early, check your voter status & have confidence that our great law enforcement officers in will stop whoever attacked our democratic process."

Police believe the three arson attacks on the ballot drop boxes in Washington and Oregon are connected, and have identified a vehicle they believe was used to target one of the drop boxes in Portland.

Officials note that the two arson attacks in Portland resemble the one in Vancouver. The suspects may have driven to and from the ballot boxes using a Volvo that CCTV footage saw at both bombing sites in Portland. Potential charges for the suspects include possession of a destructive device and illegal acts related to voting machines, among others, a PPB official said.
