Diddy indictment claims rap mogul used his power to build “empire of sex crime”
By Ramon Tomey // Sep 20, 2024

The indictment against rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs claims that he used his power to build a so-called "empire of sex crime."

Breitbart News reported, citing the Associated Press (AP), that Combs' federal indictment was unsealed on Sept. 17. It accused Combs of overseeing an empire of sex crimes that utilized his "power and prestige" for "sex trafficking, forced labor, interstate transportation for purposes of prostitution, drug offenses, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice."

The rapper and founder of the Bad Boy Records label entered a not-guilty plea for his indictment. A federal magistrate then ordered him to be put behind bars without the possibility of bail as he awaits trial.

The indictment outlined how female victims and male sex workers were drugged and coerced into sexual performances called "freak-offs" that Combs himself arranged, directed and often recorded. "The events would sometimes last days and require IVs to recover from … and Combs used his employees as though they were a film crew," the AP wrote.

It also mentioned how the rap mogul coerced and abused women for years while using blackmail – through the "freak-off" clips – and shocking acts of violence to keep victims in line. A network of associates and employees coordinated this abuse and coercion from the top down.

The Sept. 17 indictment followed Combs' arrest a day earlier while staying in a Manhattan hotel. Roughly six months prior, federal agents raided his homes in Los Angeles and Miami. They later revealed that the raids were part of a sex trafficking probe. (Related: Documentary reveals HSI agents removed 250 CAMERAS from Diddy’s LA and Miami homes.)

According to prosecutors, law enforcement seized narcotics, videos of the "freak-offs" and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant. Ammunition and firearms, including three AR-15s with defaced serial numbers, were also seized.

"A conviction on every charge in the indictment would require a mandatory 15 years in prison with the possibility of a life sentence," the AP pointed out.

Diddy's lawyers deny all accusations

Combs and his attorneys denied all allegations in the indictment, including those outlined in a lawsuit filed last November by his former partner Cassandra Ventura – mononymously known as the R&B singer Cassie. Marc Agnifilo, legal counsel for the rap mogul, declared his client's innocence and said they would appeal the bail decision.

"Sean Combs has never evaded, avoided, eluded or run from a challenge in his life," the defense team said in a court filing. "He will not start now."

During the Sept. 17 arraignment, Agnifilo argued that the entire criminal case is an outgrowth of one long-term consensual – albeit troubled – relationship that faltered amid infidelity. The "freak-off" videos, he continued, were an expansion of that relationship and were far from coercive.

But prosecutors begged to differ, noting in court papers that they had interviewed more than 50 victims and witnesses. They expect the number of witnesses to grow. Moreover, prosecutors also promised to prove Combs' guilt through financial, travel and billing records, electronic data and communications and videos of the "freak-offs."

Ventura's November lawsuit and a Sept. 17 court filing from prosecutors recount two instances of Combs' violent temper. The first instance reportedly involved him setting fire to someone's vehicle by slicing open its convertible top and dropping in a Molotov cocktail.

The second instance involved Combs and Ventura herself – with the rap mogul punching her, dragging her by the hair and kicking her at a Los Angeles hotel in 2016. Security footage made public in May attested to the beating, prompting an apology from Combs who claimed that he was "disgusted" when he did it.

His apology failed to mollify the public, leading to a major turning point. Combs returned a key to New York City (NYC) at the request of Mayor Eric Adams, and Howard University in Washington, D.C. – which awarded him an honorary degree in 2014 – severed ties with him and revoked his degree.

"A year ago, Sean Combs stood in Times Square and was handed a key to NYC," said U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams during a Sept. 17 news conference. "Today, he's been indicted and will face justice."
