Kamala’s pick for VP is a warning sign that she intends to continue Biden’s FAILED energy policies
By Arsenio Toledo // Aug 08, 2024

As governor of Minnesota, Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate Tim Walz signed into law a series of climate laws that he wants to implement nationwide as vice president.

Walz led the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party – the state affiliate party of the national Democratic Party – to push through nearly 40 climate change-related bills.

Among the notable bills he has signed is a law mandating that Minnesota get all of its energy from renewable sources by 2040, enlarge tax rebates for electric vehicles, expand access to EV charging stations and streamline the permitting of renewable energy projects. As governor, he has also provided over $2 billion to natural resources, climate and energy projects and funded clean energy career training programs – a level of spending unheard of for states, and compared to the massively costly, trillion-dollar Inflation Reduction Act.

In his first year in office, he immediately formed a climate crisis sub-cabinet and advisory board within the executive and used this board to come up with a plan to slash so-called harmful emissions in half by 2030 and boost the share of EVs on Minnesota's roads to 20 percent by the end of the decade.

His record as a so-called "climate change champion" extends to the 12 years he spent in the House of Representatives, during which the Democrats could easily rely on him to vote in their favor on climate-related bills.

Birds of a feather flock together

Green advocacy circles have spoken up regarding Harris' selection of Walz as her running mate, applauding the Minnesota governor as a climate champion.

"Like Vice President Harris, Gov. Walz knows that climate change is the existential threat of our time," claimed Ben Jealous, executive director of environmental nonprofit the Sierra Club. "The Harris-Walz ticket is one that understands the fight before us."

"Voters will have a clear choice between a Harris-Walz ticket, who will fight for our clean energy future that lowers harmful pollution and creates safer communities, or a Trump-Vance administration whose pro-polluter, extreme MAGA agenda will give Big Oil a free pass to profiteer and pollute," claimed Lori Lodes, executive director of advocacy group Climate Power.

"We could not be more excited about Gov. Walz's leadership on climate," said Bill Holland, state policy director for the League of Conservation Voters. "I do not think when he campaigned in 2018, we would have called him a 'climate champion,' and he has now made it a centerpiece."

"If you like the record prices and sky-high inflation delivered by the Biden-Harris energy agenda, you're going to love Tim Walz," warned Daniel Turner, founder and executive director of the energy advocacy organization Power The Future.

"As governor, Tim Walz based his agenda on the failed California model which may endear him to Kamala Harris, but not to struggling families," continued Turner. "Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote for the failed Inflation Reduction Act, and in picking Tim Walz, it looks like she wants just another green rubber stamp."
