Seymour Hersh: Obama OUSTED Biden with threat to invoke 25th Amendment
By Ramon Tomey // Aug 06, 2024

Former President Barack Obama reportedly led a group of top Democrats to oust incumbent President Joe Biden, even threatening to invoke the 25th Amendment against him.

Veteran investigative reporter Seymour Hersh disclosed this development, citing several sources – including "a senior official in Washington." This official reportedly helped him "fashion an account of a White House in complete disarray."

According to Hersh, Obama called Biden three days after the 81-year-old incumbent president suffered a stroke in Las Vegas. This July 17 medical emergency was attested to by multiple law enforcement sources, who were ordered to transport Biden to the University Medical Center in Nevada. While this emergency lasted a short time, the president's doctors determined he could be quickly flown back to his home state of Delaware.

Hersh's sources asserted that during the July 20 call, Obama told Biden he had the approval of Vice President Kamala Harris to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from office due to his inability to fulfill the duties of the presidency. This followed the dismal June 27 presidential debate hosted by CNN, where Biden's mental decline was on display for the world to see. Despite this, Biden publicly refused to entertain the idea of stepping aside – prompting the warning.

"Obama called Biden after breakfast [on July 20] and said, 'Here's the deal. We have Kamala's approval to invoke the 25th Amendment,'" Hersh wrote. He added that the move also had the approval of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

Hersh, who earlier revealed the West's role in the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, said Obama did not plan on immediately endorsing Harris. Instead, Obama supported the institution of a primary-like process to determine a new nominee.

Hersh: Obama had another candidate in mind

"[Obama] had an agenda, and he wanted to seek it through to the end. He wanted to have control over who would be elected," Hersh continued. "This is called a coup."

Things came to a head when Biden announced his decision to drop out of the presidential race on July 21. On the same day, he endorsed Harris to replace him as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee – something the sources described as a "rogue effort" and a "f**k you then" move toward Obama.

Hersh's sources also disclosed that Obama wasn't happy with the move. The 44th president made no mention of Harris in a lengthy statement he released following Biden's announcement.

Steve Watson of Modernity News pointed out that Hersh's revelations dovetail with reports from the New York Post. According to the tabloid, sources close to Biden say Obama doesn't believe Harris can beat former President Donald Trump. The same sources also mentioned that Obama would like to see U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) throw his hat in the ring.

According to Hersh, "it was agreed that if the poll [numbers] did not continue to show [Harris] gaining traction, other options would be considered – including an open convention." The veteran journalist also added that the Democratic Party's top brass feels that "she had better perform" to be named as the nominee.

Watson pointed out that this hesitation led to a "weird and seemingly thrown together" endorsement from the Obama couple. The Democratic former president endorsed Harris on July 26, according to a report by POLITICO. (Related: Obamas endorse Kamala Harris’ presidential bid.)

"Obama's delay was intentional, a person familiar with his thinking said, noting that the former president didn't want to interject with an endorsement while the party decided its process for determining its nominee," the outlet added. This matched with Hersh's revelation of Obama preferring an open convention to name the party's replacement for Biden.
