Georgia PM pins assassination attempt against ruling party’s founder on the “same global forces” that attempted to kill Trump
By Belle Carter // Jul 30, 2024

The government of the South Caucasus nation of Georgia has uncovered an assassination plot against Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the country's ruling party the Georgian Dream Party. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze believes this assassination conspiracy was the brainchild of the same global forces that attempted to kill former United States President Donald Trump and Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico.

The heavy yet worth-investigating allegation came after Georgia's State Security Service's (SSS) launched a probe into the attempt on Ivanishvili's life and some other high-ranking officials within the party. Kobakhidze's revelation points to former Georgian officials and former employees of the security agencies now in Ukraine as having "organized and financed" the planned murder of Georgia's richest man and former prime minister and to destabilize the Georgian government.

"The criminal activities aim to violently overthrow the state government by destructive forces in the midst of creating unrest in the country and weakening the government," the SSS statement read. "Active investigations and operative-search measures are underway in which specific persons are sent to the investigative body for questioning." The SSS added that it has begun questioning Georgians who have recently returned home after fighting in the Ukraine conflict.

At a recent press briefing, Kobakhidze suggested there is a "common pattern that characterizes the same global political forces." He alleged that the same groups that attempted to take down world leaders Trump and Fico also planned to kill the founder of the country's ruling party. He stressed that it is evident from the SSS investigation and the plot against Ivanishvili that these unidentified forces also pose a threat to Georgia.

Earlier in the month, Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) claimed that the U.S. is trying to overthrow the current government in Georgia by organizing anti-government protests in the lead up to the nation's upcoming parliamentary elections in October.

"American 'curators' have already given the command to the opposition forces in Georgia to begin planning protests in the country to coincide with the election and the Biden administration has already prepared a large-scale information campaign to discredit the Georgian Dream party," SVR claimed.

Relations between Tbilisi and Washington have been declining since Georgia passed the so-called "foreign agents" law, legislation requiring non-government organizations, media outlets and individuals that receive more than 20 percent of their funding from abroad to register as entities promoting "the interest of a foreign power."

In response to the law, the White House embarked on a "comprehensive review" of its bilateral relations with Tbilisi and suspended joint military exercises. The European Union also paused Georgia's accession negotiations to the bloc and froze some $32 million in aid payments to the Georgian Defense Ministry.

FBI confirms Trump was indeed hit by a bullet

Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed on July 26 that Trump was indeed hit by a bullet or a fragment from one when the 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to take him down during the Republican frontrunner's Pennsylvania rally earlier this month.

"What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject's rifle," the FBI said in a statement.

The department's confirmation has been the most definitive law enforcement about the 45th POTUS’ injuries. This followed ambiguous comments earlier in the week from FBI Director Christopher Wray that appeared to cast doubt on whether Trump had actually been hit by a bullet.

"As I said, I think with respect to former President Trump, there’s some question about whether or not it’s bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear," Wray testified before Congress earlier this week.

For his part, Trump has repeatedly asserted that he was hit by an in-tact bullet, writing on his Truth Social platform that "it was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear and hit it hard." "There was no glass, there was no shrapnel. The hospital called it a 'bullet wound to the ear' and that is what it was. No wonder the once-storied FBI has lost the confidence of America!" Trump posted.

The first medical account of Trump's condition, which came a full week after the shooting, said the bullet that struck Trump had "produced a two-centimeter-wide wound that extended down to the cartilaginous surface of the ear." It also revealed Trump had received a CT scan at the hospital.

"It was a bullet wound," Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson, a staunch supporter who served as Trump’s White House physician, said. "You can't make statements like that. It leads to all these conspiracy theories." In his letter released on Friday, Jackson insisted "there is absolutely no evidence" Trump was struck by anything other than a bullet and said it was "wrong and inappropriate to suggest anything else." The FBI declined to comment on Jackson's letter.
