United Auto Workers president says “a great majority” of union members WON’T VOTE for Biden despite official endorsement
By Laura Harris // Jan 30, 2024

"A great majority" of United Auto Workers (UAW) members are unlikely to vote for President Joe Biden this November, despite the union officially endorsing the incumbent's reelection.

UAW President Shawn Fain disclosed this during a recent interview with Neil Cavuto of Fox News. He told the news anchor that the state of the economy would play an important role in the decisions of UAW members.

"Look, let me be clear about this. A great majority of our members will not vote for Biden," Fain told Cavuto. "Yes, some will – but that's the reality of this. The majority of our members are [going to] vote for their paychecks; they're [going to] vote for an economy that works for them."

According to critics, the Biden administration's green energy policies such as electric vehicle (EV) mandates could result in plant closures, outsourcing and significant job losses within the U.S. auto industry. Some UAW members have even warned that such initiatives have the potential "to wipe us out" and bring "poverty wages" to the sector.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen even claimed that the Biden administration is not looking to decouple from China. According to Breitbart News, China – a key player in the EV market – could flood the U.S. market with cheap EVs at the expense of American auto workers. During his interview with Cavuto, Fain criticized former President Donald Trump for not standing with American workers. The UAW president also cited how Biden supports striking union members in protests against car makers Ford, General Motors and Stellantis.

"If you look at the facts and the body of work of both candidates, and both of them in their own words, nowhere in history has Trump ever stood for the American worker. He stands against everything we pretty much stand for."

In turn, Biden celebrated the UAW's endorsement as a testament to his commitment to workers' unions.

"Look, I kept my commitment to be the most pro-union president ever," he said. "Honest to God, I've always believed that the union movement in America is important because it produces the best-skilled workers in the world. That's what happens. It's good for everybody."

Trump vows to stand with auto workers amid Biden admin's GREEN TYRANNY

However, Fain's claims of Trump refusing to support auto workers can be easily debunked. In an October 2023 video greeting sent to about 34,000 striking auto workers, the former president vowed to stand with them amid the Biden administration's green tyranny.

At the time, striking workers were protesting for a new contract with better pay to cope with high inflation. Additionally, they wanted assurances that their jobs wouldn't be cut due to Biden's EV mandates.

"I will repeal Biden's EV mandate, and I will do everything in my power to achieve a drastic reduction in the cost of a new car. I will get the prices way down, so that you can afford the lifestyle your family deserves," Trump said in the video.

At the same time, he warned American auto workers that their jobs would be gone in no time under such crippling green energy efforts from the administration.

"If you're a [UAW] worker or an auto worker of any standard of any state, I don’t care. They're going to destroy your business; within two years, you're not going to have a job. I'm going to bring back jobs. I'm going to bring back the manufacture of automobiles in our country. Tell your union head … to not endorse the Democrats who are going to put you out of business."
