The second-highest official in the land made this remark during an interview with CNN's Laura Coates. "The previous president expressed his intentions quite clearly – and fast forward to just recently, says he's proud of what he did," Harris said.
"By inference, he is proud that women have been deprived of fundamental freedoms to make decisions about their own body. [He is also] proud that doctors are being penalized and criminalized for providing health care … [and] that women are silently suffering because they don't have access to the health care they need. So, let's understand that the stakes are so very high."
Harris, a known supporter of infanticide, has made comments in support of the practice. She has dubbed as "immoral" the practice of protecting babies conceived as a result of rape. Moreover, the vice president has refused to identify any acceptable cutoff point for legal abortion.
The remarks by the former U.S. senator for California pertained to Trump's comments at a Jan. 10 town hall meeting by Fox News, where an audience member asked him about the U.S. Supreme Court's overturn of the 1973 abortion ruling. "Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it," Trump answered. "We did something that was a miracle."
Three of the five Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn the ruling – Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett – were appointed by Trump during his presidential term. The other two justices were Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, who were appointed during the first and second Bush administrations. (Related: Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, sending issue of abortion back to states where it always belonged.)

It is worth noting, however, that the overturn of the Roe ruling and the support of the related Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Organization ruling only sent the issue of abortion back to the states. Thus, the issue of abortion bans fall back to the states. Red states quickly enacted prohibitions on infanticides, while blue states such as California – where Harris hails from – touted themselves as "abortion sanctuaries."
"Regardless, [the] Democrats' decision to make abortion one of their main talking points for driving left-wing turnout to reelect President Joe Biden indicates that Trump's efforts to moderate on the issue will not change the overall narrative of the race," LifeSiteNews pointed out.
In one example, the Biden-Harris campaign released an advertisement featuring Dr. Austin Dennard. The Texas ob-gyn lectured on women's supposed "need" for abortion, citing her own experience aborting a baby diagnosed with anencephaly (an undeveloped head).
The incumbent president seeking a second term has also promised to uphold infanticide instead of fighting for children's right to live. He has called for Congress to send to his desk a federal law that would "codify Roe … to protect every woman's constitutional right to choose" abortion.
Proposals such as the Women's Health Protection Act or Freedom of Choice Act would impact the sovereignty of individual states in two years. First, such measures would prohibit abortion bans at the state level. Second, they would make it impossible for states to enact any meaningful limits or regulations on abortion.
Moreover, Biden has boasted that his administration has "launched a whole-of-government effort to protect 'reproductive rights'" – the latter a popular euphemism for legal abortion on demand. Such efforts include increasing taxpayer funding for abortion both at home and abroad, and attempted waiving of federal safety regulations against distributing abortion pills by mail.
