Report: Illegals from Texas being dropped off at NJ train stations due to NYC bus restrictions
By Ava Grace // Jan 05, 2024

Illegal immigrants from Texas are reportedly being dropped off at New Jersey train stations due to New York City's (NYC) restrictions on buses.

Tyler Jones, a spokesman for New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, confirmed the development to Breitbart. He noted that the state government "has tracked the recent arrival of a handful buses of migrant families at various NJ Transit train stations."

"New Jersey is primarily being used as a transit point for these families," Jones continued. "All, or nearly all of them, continued with their travels en route to their final destination of NYC."

Officials in Secaucus, Fanwood, Trenton and Jersey City all confirmed that buses have been seen dropping off migrants at train stations in their jurisdictions. "It seems quite clear the bus operators are finding a way to thwart the requirements of the [NYC] executive order by dropping migrants at the train station in Secaucus and having them continue to their final destination,” said Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams announced the executive order in a bid to limit migrant buses from entering the Big Apple. Most of the buses come from Texas, with Gov. Greg Abbott being committed to transport migrants that enter the Lone Star State to the self-proclaimed "sanctuary city."

Adams' new rules are similar to those made by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. The chief executive of the Windy City – another self-proclaimed "sanctuary city" – also quietly passed rules that place heavy restrictions on buses to prevent them from dropping off illegals there.

"This is a crisis caused by the Biden administration," Abbott said in August 2022. "Two years ago, we had the lowest number of border crossings in decades; today, we have the highest number of illegal crossings in the U.S. ever. Before we begin busing illegal immigrants up to [NYC], it was just Texas and Arizona that bore the brunt of all the chaos and all of the problems to come with it."

Biden threatens to sue Texas over new law

More than a year later, the Texas governor has made good on his promise to bus illegals to NYC. He posted on X on Jan. 3: "Texas has transported over 95,000 migrants to sanctuary cities. NYC and Chicago have seen only a fraction of what overwhelmed Texas border towns face daily. We will continue our transportation mission until Biden reverses course on his open border policies."

Amid this, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has threatened to sue the state of Texas over its passage of Senate Bill (SB) 4, which allows state and local law enforcement to arrest anyone who is unlawfully in the United States. In response, Abbott accused President Joe Biden of "destroying America." He continued: "The Biden administration not only refuses to enforce current U.S. immigration laws, they now want to stop Texas from enforcing laws against illegal immigration. I've never seen such hostility to the rule of law in America."

Under the newly-signed SB 4, crossing the border between ports of entry will now become a state-level crime. It also empowers police to arrest people who do so, and requires judges to order apprehended individuals to return to Mexico. SB 4 is scheduled to take effect in early March.

"Biden sued me … because I signed a law making it illegal for an illegal immigrant to enter or attempt to enter Texas directly from a foreign nation," Abbott posted on Jan. 5. "I like my chances. Texas is the only government in America trying to stop illegal immigration."

Abbott has continued to take a series of actions to ensure border security since March 2021, such as sending troopers and National Guard members to the 1,200-mile-long Texas-Mexico border to apprehend immigrants crossing the Rio Grande.
