British Columbia greenlights legislation allowing kids to self-identify as a gender that contradicts their biological reality
By Belle Carter // Apr 11, 2023

The New Democratic Party (NDP) of British Columbia (BC) in Canada has just unanimously passed a law that would allow children as young as 12 years old to self-identify as a different gender and legally change their gender marker.

The amendments to Bill 15, known as the "Vital Statistics Act," included provisions allowing children to change their legal sex on their birth certificate without the need for a doctor or mental health professional's involvement, and residents of BC can also be issued a birth certificate that does not have a sex marker.

Bill 15 was introduced by NDP Minister for Health Adrian Dixon on March 9 and was passed by the BC provincial legislature on March 28.

NDP Minister of State for Child Care Grace Lore, who is a former gender studies professor, announced the bill's passing on Twitter, lauding the fact kids can now change their gender on a whim and at will.

"By law, those 12 and older do NOT need a doc or psychologist in order to change their gender marker AND, by request, people can get a birth certificate without a gender marker on it. Also – protect trans kids," Lore tweeted.

The day the bill was introduced, Lore explained in a video that removing the need for a doctor or psychiatrist to be involved in the legal sex change process is necessary, even for those as young as 12, because "it is people, not professionals who know their gender."

This recent controversial legislation in Canada seems to be opposing recent movements by other countries that aim to outlaw gender-affirming care or genital mutilation of children.

According to the Post Millennial, England, Sweden, Finland and Norway have all undertaken systematic reviews of the evidence for affirmation and medical intervention for minors who identify as the opposite sex and found it to be of extremely poor quality. Each nation moved back to a more cautious psychotherapeutic approach to treating this vulnerable cohort of young people.

Recently, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders also signed a bill to ban minors from attending drag shows and other events that are classified as "adult-oriented performance."

Anthony Murdoch of LifeSiteNews commented that the promotion of radical gender ideology in kids and adults in Canada has proliferated due to left-leaning mayors, certain provincial government units and the federal government. For example, a children's theater in Vancouver, which gets funding from local and federal governments, will host a "drag queen camp" for kids as young as seven this summer.

The rise in these kinds of activities has resulted in Christian pastors protesting the events getting arrested and jailed due to laws in some cities banning demonstrations against such events.

Ontario Legislature to ban "offensive remarks" about the LGBTQIA community

The Ontario Legislative Assembly introduced a bill that would create safe spaces for 2SLGBTQI+ people where "offensive remarks" about gay people would be prohibited within 100 meters. Violation of the said measure could lead to a fine of up to $25,000.

The legislation's main proponent was Kristyn Wong-Tam, a member of the Ontario NDP, who said in an official press release that "drag artists have faced threats and intimidation" all across the province over the past year.

"Businesses and 2SLGBTQI+ community members are being told that they can't be out and proud from Thunder Bay to Hamilton, to Guelph, to Stratford, to Welland, Ottawa, and even Toronto. New Democrats are giving Ford's Conservatives a chance to stop hate – today – by passing my private member's bill," the provincial legislator said.

Wong-Tam's bill would allow the Attorney General of Ontario to designate physical addresses in the province as "2SLGBTQI+ Community Safety Zones" for a specified period of time. During the time a safety zone is in effect, "anti-2SLGBTQI+ harassment, intimidation, and hate speech within 100 meters of the designated address could receive a provincial fine" of up to CA25,000 ($18,524), according to the Ontario NDP's press release.

Meanwhile, drag performances, particularly in the presence of minors, have been widely denounced in the United States, where several states have either considered or passed bills to ban drag shows in areas where minors could watch them.

Tennessee became the first state last month to officially pass a law banning drag performances in the presence of children. (Related: Survey: 43% of Americans think acceptance of transgenderism has gone too far.)
