The purge of conservatives from social media continues as Instagram bans popular political cartoonist Ben Garrison for “offensive” content
By JD Heyes // Apr 18, 2019

If you are a news junkie, then chances are good you’re also a fan of political cartoons, the point of which is to use exaggerated artwork and other techniques to make a strong statement about an issue of the day.

But even non-news junkies can understand and appreciate statements behind political cartoons. A good cartoonist can use any number of techniques — style, artwork, messaging, text — to make his or her point.

Ben Garrison is one of the best in the business. A conservative who has a large following because he is so good and because he’s been doing his thing for years, he’s now been caught up in the purge of right-leaning, pro-Trump voices by the Left-wing speech Nazis who own the most popular social media platforms.

As noted by The Gateway Pundit, first Garrison had one of his posts deleted but then Instagram deplatformed him entirely.

“Your account has been disabled for violating our terms,” said a message Garrison received from the platform, along with a link to Instagram’s “legal terms” and polices regarding the censorship of content.

The message he received regarding his deleted post said, in part:

We want to keep Instagram a safe place for everyone, and we ask that you treat other members of the community with respect. Even if you didn’t mean to offend, remember that we created these guidelines to support and protect our community on Instagram…

The “offending” post was labeled as… “hate speech.” What is else new? That’s what the easily triggered Left calls all viewpoints it disagrees with, ‘hate speech.’

It wasn’t clear which post — or which cartoon — was deemed “hateful” by the Instagram speech Nazis, but given Garrison’s very pro-Trump style and his spot-on depictions of the president’s political enemies, it’s safe to say that the content had to do with one of the Democratic Party’s ‘minority’ politicians.

But again, that is the point of political cartoons: To lampoon, to mock, and even to ridicule political and cultural figures in a way that makes a sharp, often controversial point. After all, liberal cartoonists do the same to conservatives, Republicans, and POTUS Trump on a daily basis, and yet, none of them are suffering the same fate as Garrison. Without question, the Left-wing tech giants are moving as rapidly as they can to silence conservatives

But is this really a big deal? Does it seriously signal the rapid decline in Leftist tolerance of viewpoints other than their own?

You bet it does.

To demonstrate the gravity of what’s happening to conservative voices and to Garrison in particular, once upon a time the only platforms for political cartoonists were newspapers and magazines. Conservative and liberal cartoonists who were lucky enough to be syndicated were given ‘voices’ in print publications all over the country, most of which were owned, edited, and staffed by liberals.

That, obviously, has changed: The Leftist authoritarians who founded this generation’s more widely used communications vehicles — social media platforms — are blocking content they find politically objectionable and to which they disagree.

So, unlike their liberal predecessors in the newspaper industry, today’s Leftists resemble Adolph Hitler’s propaganda minister, Josef Goebbels, more than American journalists Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow (both of whom were committed liberals).

Without question, the Left-wing tech giants are moving as rapidly as they can to silence conservatives. The examples, by now, are too voluminous to ignore or blow off. Democrats try to dismiss such accusations, of course, but then they are easily refuted by examples like Ben Garrison.

In a way, this kind of censorship ought to give conservatives satisfaction in knowing that our ideas are so superior and so rooted in fact and real-world examples that the only way the Left can ‘refute’ them is through censorship.
