There are few more media-savvy people on the political scene these days than Fox News host, Weekly Standard alum and The Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson, so when he talks about the impact a relatively new facet of the media industry is having, it’s a good idea to listen to him.
Specifically, Carlson is warning that unless POTUS Donald Trump and Republicans take seriously the shadow banning, outright banning, and overt/covert censorship being practiced by Big Tech against conservatives, they don’t have a prayer in 2020.
During his show last Wednesday, Carlson had on as a guest conservative lawyer Harmeet Dhillon to discuss this very real threat to the president and his party in the upcoming elections.
“Google has been punishing conservatives and hounding them out and criticizing people who support anything conservative for a couple years, ever since the election actually. So it’s been almost three years now,” Dhillon said during the interview.
“And now that they are openly, and Facebook and Twitter as well to a certain degree, openly banning and cracking down on conservative speech because they think it is ‘dangerous’ and they want to protect people from these conservative ideas, they are absolutely going to wield that in favor of Democratic candidates. We’ve already seen Google banning ads of the president on immigration,” she added.
Carlson asked, “Do you think the president understands he will not be reelected in a free and fair election unless somebody gets ahold of this?”
“I’m not sure the whole establishment understands that… I keep saying that and so do you… I think we are in crisis mode… If we allow this to continue, if we allow this to happen in 2020 it is game over for conservatives in this country and competition in our politics,” Dhillon said.
She and Tucker and precious few others are sounding the alarm about the damage being done to our electoral process, our democratic process, and our governing process by the social media behemoths.
Run by Left-wing sycophants and staffed primarily with speech Nazis who see any and all conservative content and political ideas as offensive, bigoted, racist, homophobic, and dangerous, Tucker understands that because these platforms reach tens of millions of Americans every single minute of every single day, they have a huge influence — on what we all see and, importantly, what we don’t.
The research backs him up (and he knows it). As The National Sentinel reported in May 2018:
A leading psychologist involved in a five-year study that looked at the effects social media behemoths Facebook and Google had on human behavior patterns told Fox News Tucker Carlson in Friday that the tech-media companies are capable of influencing election outcomes.
The study’s findings come as conservative publishers and media have increased complaints that both platforms are censoring their content or purposely limiting their reach.
“I can tell you we should be paranoid because what Google and Facebook can do is really mind-boggling,” Dr. Robert Eptstein, a research psychologist at the American Institute of Behavioral Research and Technology, told Carlson in an interview. Based on his research he prepared a presentation called, “The Search Suggestion Effect (SSE): How Search Suggestions Can Be Used To Shift Opinions and Voting Preferences Dramatically.” And he absolutely believes that the social media giants hold far too much sway over the electorate.
“For example, if Mark Zuckerberg on election day last year, if he had chosen to press the enter key early in the morning and just sent out a message to Hillary Clinton supporters only saying, ‘Go out and vote,’ that would have sent her an additional 450,000 voters that day with no one knowing that this had occurred. And that’s just Facebook,” he said, noting that Google’s power is even more profound.
“Our studies show that Google can take a 50-50 split among undecided voters and change it into a 90-10 split with no one knowing they had been manipulated and without leaving a paper trail,” the researcher continued.
