Once upon a time the Donkey Party truly did represent working-class Americans by fighting for jobs, opportunities, and economic advancement. Unions were not so much political as they were focused on ensuring that workers were treated better than they were during the early years of the Industrial Revolution.
But about 10 years ago Democrats elected a closet Marxist, Barack Obama, a president who talked ‘jobs’ and ‘helping the working-class’ but who instead adopted government-centric, regulation-heavy policies that sapped job creation, increased dependency and reduced corporate investment.
Now, a decade later, the party’s transformation into something the Castro brothers in Cuba and Nikolas Maduro in Venezuela would be proud of is complete: Democratic voters are electing openly socialist candidates to Congress and to statehouses like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has no grasp of economics whatsoever — and she’s got a degree in economics.
You may have heard that e-tail behemoth Amazon was looking to build a major new distribution and business hub in a part of New York City that has long been in need of economic revitalization.
The deal seemed to be on the glide path to getting done, but something happened to derail it: Socialist Democrats.
Upset by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s pledge to extend to Amazon a $3 billion tax break as a sweetener to entice billionaire founder Jeff Bezos to make the investment in the Big Apple, state Sen. Michael Gianaris, head of the obscure Public Authorities Control Board, became the one individual who thwarted the deal.
The New York Post reported:
Gianaris, who represents Long Island City, where Amazon was planning to build one of its new headquarters, bitterly opposed the $3 billion in subsidies offered by the city and state and was miffed that Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio didn’t consult him on the deal, according to sources.
Mind you, Amazon was prepared to spend monster money building a new facility in Long Island City then employing some 25,000 people to staff it. As big deals go, this was a very big deal. It would have brought prosperity to the region (at a time when the region really needs it) as well as income and opportunity to tens of thousands of New Yorkers.
“Amazon saw it as a sign that the state Senate was against the deal. It put the deal over the cliff,” an insider told the Post.
So Amazon and Bezos decided to kill the NYC deal and move HQ2 to Arlington, Va., instead, which took de Blasio and Cuomo by surprise.
Never mind that Amazon was going to pay something like $27 billion in taxes compared to the $3 billion break. It wasn’t like NYC and the State of New York were cutting Bezos a check for billions of dollars. That’s not what “tax break” is; it’s a discount in taxes owed. (Related: Ocasio-Cortez speaks like an ignorant high school student, and thinks like an economically illiterate communist.)
“We get $27 billion in revenue, they get $3 billion back,” Cuomo said Feb. 8. “I would do that all day long.”
And this at a time when Cuomo’s budget is short $2.3 billion because the state’s high taxes have been driving off high-income earners over the past several years.
Now for the real stupid.
Economic morons like Ocasio-Cortez don’t understand what just happened. She celebrated the loss of those 25,000 jobs — and New York’s lost $27 billion in tax revenue — because “corporate greed” or something.
“Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world,” she tweeted upon hearing the news that Amazon was pulling the plug.
The lesson here for the voters who put this fruitcake in office is this: Democratic socialists like her are not Donkey Party Democrats, they’re socialists, period. So when the choice is supporting the creation of 25,000 jobs or ‘sticking it to the rich corporate guy,’ you’re going to lose jobs all day everyday.
Welcome to the revolution, comrades.
Keep up with all the lunacy of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at CortezWatch.com.
