Free abortion drugs on California college campuses? OBGYN warns it’s medical “malpractice”
By Ethan Huff // Dec 25, 2018

California Democratic Senator Connie M. Leyva recently introduced legislation calling for free abortion drugs to be provided at all California public university campuses beginning in 2023. But a prominent medical doctor is warning that the scheme amounts to medical "malpractice."

According to Dr. Donna Harrison, the executive director of the American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Sen. Leyva's proposal will put untold thousands of campus females at risk of serious complications. That's because abortion pharmaceuticals can cause "major complications" in up to 20 percent of women who take them.

"The false idea that drug induced abortion is 'safe' is an often repeated mantra which flies in the face of the fact that studies show almost one out of five women will experience a major complication like excessive bleeding, infection, tissue left inside or other complications resulting in an emergency room visit and possibly emergency surgery to complete the abortion," Dr. Harrison told The College Fix via email.

"On-campus health centers are not staffed or equipped to deal with these complications, so the plan is to dump these complications on the emergency room. In any other medical situation this irresponsible lack of care for known complications would be considered patient abandonment and malpractice."

Any "doctor" who agrees to perform abortions is in clear violation of the Hippocratic Oath

Dr. Harrison says she's currently reviewing some 3,000 adverse event reports that women who've taken abortion pills have submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). But in her view, these "are only the tip of the iceberg, since it is estimated that only a small percentage of drug induced harms ever get reported to the FDA."

Natural News has reported on this in the past, warning that while tens of thousands of people who are injured or killed by pharmaceutical drugs successfully make it into the FDA's adverse events database, these entries represents as little as one percent of the actual number that occur – the vast majority of which never get reported.

Dr. Harrison also warns that any on-campus doctor who would agree to administer abortion drugs in the first place isn't a true doctor, because unborn baby murder is a clear violation of the Hippocratic Oath, to which every licensed physician is required to swear.

"Further, doctors who have taken the Hippocratic Oath do not participate in killing their unborn patients and it is against federal law to force any health care provider to participate in the killing of their patients, born or unborn."

Incoming California Governor-Elect Gavin Newsom strongly supports handing out taxpayer-funded abortion pills to campus females

If it passes, Sen. Leyva's bill, known as Senate Bill 24, will apportion a $200,000 grant to every public university in the Golden State – money that would be specifically used to cover the costs associated with "medication abortion readiness."

Under SB 24, the state of California will also contribute additional funds for various other abortion-related services, including 24-hour "backup support by telephone" where females on campus who take abortion drugs can consult with someone about their decision.

Earlier versions of SB 24 were shot down by pro-choice Governor Jerry Brown as just "not necessary." But Sen. Leyva is reintroducing the bill in advance of Governor-Elect Gavin Newsom taking office, as Newsom has publicly stated that he's in full support of any legislation that involves handing out free abortion pills – funded by California taxpayers, of course – to campus females.

"It is critically important that we reaffirm the constitutional right of college students to access abortion care without delay, and that should always include student health centers on public university campuses," Sen. Leyva has further expressed, demonstrating her urgent support for murdering more unborn babies on California's public college and university campuses.
