Without question Hollywood is dominated by supporters of the hard-Left Democratic Party – the same one that claims to be so “woke,” so tolerant, so understanding, so forgiving, so accepting, and of course, not at all racist or bigoted.
So, you’d think that a Hollywood A-lister who agreed to play a role portraying one of the party’s new societal darlings – a transgendered person – would be hailed and cheered by the Left and, in particular, the transgender Left.
You’d be wrong.
As Variety reported recently, actress Scarlett Johansson announced that she has left the film “Rub and Tug” just a week or so after her casting caused the transgender community – all .5 percent of the population, mind you– to be triggered.
Johansson, you see, is straight. And because today’s Left is more hypocritical and intolerant than ever, why, playing a transgender when you’re not really a transgender just isn’t acceptable.
It really has gotten that stupid. Ten years ago, transgendered persons would have been supremely thankful for any positive portrayal. But that was then.
“In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation on the project,” the actress told Out Magazine, which first reported her withdrawal.
“Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive,” Johansson continued. “I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood continues. According to GLAAD, LGBTQ+ characters dropped 40% in 2017 from the previous year, with no representation of trans characters in any major studio release. (Related: Harvey Weinstein revelations prove Hollywood is a left-wing cesspool of perverts, pedophiles and rapists.)
“While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante’s story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person, and I am thankful that this casting debate, albeit controversial, has sparked a larger conversation about diversity and representation in film,” the statement continues.
Transgender actors piled on.
“Oh, word?? So you can continue to play us but we can’t play y’all? Hollywood is so f***ed. I wouldn’t be as upset if I was getting in the same rooms as Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett for cis roles, but we know that’s not the case. A mess,” tweeted Trace Lysette, known for her appearance in Amazon’s “Transparent.”

Where to begin?
First of all, notice the self-entitlement. Why does a transgendered person have to play a transgendered person? Isn’t acting all about adopting and playing a character different from who you really are? How many gay actors portrayed straight characters over the decades? Too many to count? Where was the outrage over that?
And didn’t Sean Penn, a straight male (as far as we know), play Harvey Milk, a gay San Francisco politician in the 1970s? Yes, he did.
Then there’s the matter of choice: Don’t Hollywood studios, which are putting up the money for a film, and producers and directors who are casting for it (so it’ll be profitable) get the chance to pick who they want for their projects? Depending on the subject matter and characters in today’s Hollywood, apparently not.
And what about Lysette personally; maybe Scarlett Johansson, who has spent years honing her craft, is just a better actress. Doesn’t that count? And shouldn’t the producer and director make that call, not the ‘jilted’ transgender who feels she’s entitled to something just because of the subject matter?
As for Johansson’s cowardly decision to back out of a project, that’s on her. If you don’t even have the strength of your convictions and you’re willing to let yourself be bullied out of millions for a movie, maybe you don’t belong in today’s Hollywood, where hypocrite Leftists attack other Leftists when they’re not “woke” enough.
