By this point, it should be abundantly clear that liberals are willing to say and do just about anything to make President Trump look like an unstable psychopath that destroys everything he touches. Nine times out of ten, though, the things that the left accuses Trump of simply aren’t accurate; just political spin and fake news.
Case in point: An environmental activist group called Friends of the Earth recently criticized President Trump for allegedly proposing a budget that “guts” Superfund cleanup efforts – a claim that was later revealed to be entirely false.
Specifically, a Friends of the Earth climate and energy campaigner by the name of Lukas Ross slammed President Trump and his budget proposal for fiscal year 2019, which he claimed cuts the Environmental Protection Agency budget from $5.6 billion to $5.4 billion. Such cuts would translate to a decrease of $272 million in funding to the Superfund cleanup program, and essentially abandon all federal efforts to clean up some of the most environmentally contaminated areas in the United States.
“Unsurprisingly, toxic waste cleanup isn’t a concern for an administration that’s done everything to please corporate polluters,” Ross said in a statement. “Additionally, the categorical grant program that goes to help states and tribes with environmental protection will be slashed by over 40 percent. Donald Trump and [EPA Administrator] Scott Pruitt are sending polluters a dream budget, at the expense of Americans’ public health and the environment.”
If you take Lukas Ross at his word, then it sure sounds like President Trump is a cruel man that cares very little about maintaining a clean environment. There’s just one problem – the environmental group got the budget completely wrong, and were forced to issue a new statement rescinding their criticism of President Trump just hours later.
“In our attempt to quickly analyze the 2019 budget, we missed the addendum. In error, we missed a proposed increase in EPA spending levels included to acknowledge last week’s deal to raise the spending caps,” Friends of the Earth said in their apology statement. “Please disregard our previous statement. We have also pulled it from our website. We humbly apologize for the error and any inconvenience it caused.”
This is exactly what happens when you’re driven by blind rage rather than the pursuit of the truth – inaccurate statements are made, and in the end, you end up looking like a fool. What Lukas Ross and Friends of the Earth should have done is read through the 2019 budget multiple times, slowly and carefully, making sure to have all of their facts straight before issuing an official response to the public. But of course, as the liberals have proven to the entire country time and time again, facts are now irrelevant; the only thing that matters is attacking and discrediting President Trump. As a matter of fact, there are a number of things that the political left have attacked President Trump for regarding the economy, most of which turns out to be utterly inaccurate. Take the claim that Trump’s tax plan doesn’t do anything to help the middle class, for example. Even though this claim has been peddled for months now, it simply isn’t true – as Townhall.com pointed out, the vast majority of taxpayers would receive a tax cut under the Republican’s economic plan, including an estimated 75 percent of middle income households. This means that millions of Americans will experience relief as President Trump and the Republicans move forward with their economic plan, a reality that is polar opposite to the liberals’ claim that Trump “isn’t doing anything to help the middle class.”
