The far Left adores former President Barack Obama and it wouldn’t matter if they discovered that he kicked kittens and robbed convenience stores while in office, they’ll love him until the day they die.
So it won’t matter to them that Obama was found to have engaged in more chicanery (I’m using that as a euphemism for lying) than previously known in order to make his phony-baloney “nuclear deal” with Iran.
But it will matter to the rest of the country – and Israel, and any other country threatened by Iranian nuclear and missile development that is ongoing.
An investigation by Politico, of all sites, found that the Obama administration’s swapping of 21 Iranian prisoners and fugitives for five Americans as part of the deal was anything but on the level.
It appears as though the Obama White House – most likely led by the former president himself – deliberately hid or downplayed a significant national security threat to the United States posed by the prisoners and fugitives the U.S. gave back to Iran. A review of the Politico investigation by Vox noted:
A number of them were involved in helping Iran procure lethal technology for its military, and at least one of them was accused of helping Iran procure critical equipment for the very nuclear programs the Obama administration was trying to halt with the nuclear deal it struck the year before, according to the article.
If all of what Politico reported in its lengthy piece is confirmed, it would emphasize critics’ claims that the previous administration was willing to do anything it took to secure a “legacy-cementing” ‘deal’ and keep Iran from backing out.
That includes going so far as to endanger the lives of Americans living in the U.S. and abroad and, perhaps at some point in the future, U.S. military personnel stationed or deployed in the Middle East.
What’s worse, the exchange also undermined the Obama administration’s own stated efforts to disrupt Iranian weapons programs and nuclear development, and that the previous White House had no problems lying to the American people in order to achieve its own self-centered objectives.
When, in January 2016, the administration said it would drop charges against seven Iranian-born prisoners as a pretext to swapping for the five Americans, they told the American people the Iranians were “civilians” and “businessmen.” The White House said they had not been “charged with terrorism or any violent offenses,” but instead were charged with far less glamorous (and dangerous) offenses of violating the U.S. trade embargo or sanctions against Iran.
Still, while those Iranians were technically “businessmen” and “civilians,” the Obama White House deliberately gave a misleading account of what they were actually involved in doing.
The fact is, many of them were actually engaged in weapons program activity that undercut the administration’s publicly stated objective of halting Iranian development.
“Three allegedly were part of an illegal procurement network supplying Iran with U.S.-made microelectronics with applications in surface-to-air and cruise missiles like the kind Tehran test-fired recently, prompting a still-escalating exchange of threats with the Trump administration,” Politico reported.
One other was serving an eight-year sentence for his involvement in a conspiracy to obtain and supply Iran with satellite technology.
Speaking of the Iran nuclear deal, Trump.news reported Monday that President Donald J. Trump and his top diplomat, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, are no longer relying on previous administrations’ endless (and fruitless) negotiations with regimes seeking to develop and deploy nuclear weapons.
Tillerson told CNBC last week past U.S. policy has involved “buying off” regimes like Iran and North Korea, a strategy that has failed. (RELATED: Iran Cheating Again On Nuclear ‘Deal’ That Obama Was Warned Should Never Have Been Made)
“We buy them off for a short period of time, and then someone has to deal with it later,” he said.
Of the Obama-Iran nuclear agreement, Trump called it “terrible.”
“That shouldn’t have been signed,” he said. It shouldn’t have been negotiated the way it was negotiated.”
The Politico investigation provides more evidence that the president is right.
