(Freedom.news) You can tell who frightens the political and media establishment the most by the severity in which they attack said person. For GOP presidential nominee Donald J. Trump, the fear of him ascending to the White House is so great that now, once-great papers have delved into the nonsensical in a vain effort to topple him.
The New York Times ran this headline yesterday: “Investigating Donald Trump. FBI Sees No Clear Link to Russia.” Apparently, the Times is still taking its walking orders from the campaign of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, which – since WikiLeaks began releasing volumes of hacked emails from her campaign and the Democratic National Committee – has been shouting from the roof, “The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!” Oh, and Trump sicced Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Democrats, as if Putin bends to the will of any American leader.
From the Times:
For much of the summer, the F.B.I. pursued a widening investigation into a Russian role in the American presidential campaign. Agents scrutinized advisers close to Donald J. Trump, looked for financial connections with Russian financial figures, searched for those involved in hacking the computers of Democrats, and even chased a lead — which they ultimately came to doubt — about a possible secret channel of email communication from the Trump Organization to a Russian bank.
Law enforcement officials say that none of the investigations so far have found any conclusive or direct link between Mr. Trump and the Russian government. And even the hacking into Democratic emails, F.B.I. and intelligence officials now believe, was aimed at disrupting the presidential election rather than electing Mr. Trump.
Why would the James Comey’s FBI even bother with this idiocy? The Times gave us the answer:
Hillary Clinton’s supporters, angry over what they regard as a lack of scrutiny of Mr. Trump by law enforcement officials, pushed for these investigations. In recent days they have also demanded that James B. Comey, the director of the F.B.I., discuss them publicly, as he did last week when he announced that a new batch of emails possibly connected to Mrs. Clinton had been discovered.
Would the FBI and the Times be as concerned if Republicans had been hacked?
You know the answer to that question. No.
If it’s not “the Russians” that the Times is obsessed with, it’s The Donald’s taxes. Though the paper has no pertinent information or confirmation that Trump has ever done anything wrong regarding his taxes, editors had to run with an accusatory story anyway:
Donald J. Trump proudly acknowledges he did not pay a dime in federal income taxes for years on end. He insists he merely exploited tax loopholes legally available to any billionaire — loopholes he says Hillary Clinton failed to close during her years in the United States Senate. “Why didn’t she ever try to change those laws so I couldn’t use them?” Mr. Trump asked during a campaign rally last month.
But newly obtained documents show that in the early 1990s, as he scrambled to stave off financial ruin, Mr. Trump avoided reporting hundreds of millions of dollars in taxable income by using a tax avoidance maneuver so legally dubious his own lawyers advised him that the Internal Revenue Service would most likely declare it improper if he were audited.
Thanks to this one maneuver, which was later outlawed by Congress, Mr. Trump potentially escaped paying tens of millions of dollars in federal personal income taxes.
Yawn.
Trump has also said his taxes are in perpetual audit; if the Donald had really done something wrong, the IRS would have charged and/or fined him by now. That much is so painfully obvious to nearly everyone who isn’t a New York Times reporter or editor.
As for the “Russian connection,” Americans of any or no political inclination ought to be roundly upset by the fact that any campaign can “push” the FBI to investigative another campaign. It would seem that, under Barack Obama, the politicization of one of the world’s (former) premier law enforcement agencies is complete.
Of course Democrats and the establishment press hate Comey now because he reopened an investigation into their anointed queen, though just a few short months ago they applauded him when, in July, he took the very unusual step of publicly pooh-poohing the idea that the FBI would be recommending an indictment of Clinton to the Justice Department, even as he laid out a clear case for why she ought to be recommended and even indicted.
And the establishment press has been there the entire time, cheering Democrats when they are let off the hook and constantly doing their bidding, while serving as an echo chamber for any whiner with a “D” behind his or her name spewing accusations, no matter how stupid, preposterous and incendiary they are.
Like it’s political establishment masters, the establishment press is no longer an effective check on power, as the framers envisioned it would be. Rather, that task has now fallen to the alternative media, where real reporting is still done, and is no longer the harbinger of conspiracy theories galore.
No, publishing those has now fallen to legacy newspapers and outlets like The New York Times.
Pathetic and irrelevant are the only words we can think of to describe what The Old Gray Lady and its peers have become.
