Jack Herer was a pro-cannabis and hemp activist and author of the book The Emperor Wears no Clothes. He maintained that the cannabis plant should be decriminalized and argued that it should be cultivated as a renewable, sustainable source of fuel, medicine, food, fiber and paper that could be grown virtually everywhere in the world. He was outspoken in his belief that the US government was deliberately hiding proof of marijuana’s usefulness from their own citizens.
Jack Herer was born on June 18, 1939 and died on April 15, 2010 from heart complications. He is known for his tireless activism on behalf of hemp and he was heavily involved in US politics as well. His book The Emperor Wears no Clothes highlights just about everything there is to know about hemp, from nutrition to how hemp can be used as a source of energy, to how it can be used to treat a wide range of illnesses. The book used to come at a cost but is now available on the internet for free.
Although slightly inaccurate in some ways, Jack Herer’s book nonetheless reminds the world that cannabis in all its forms is one of mankind’s most valuable resources and that the planet can literally be saved with hemp.
Jack Herer marijuana strain
Jack Herer’s legacy continues in the form of a marijuana strain named after him, in honor of his work as a cannabis activist. The sativa/indica hybrid strain of cannabis is said to be the cream of the crop of marijuana strains and ranks as the most awarded variety in the history of harvest festivals. The recipient of at least nine awards would be the pinnacle of recognition for any strain, yet Jack Herer manages to go a step further and it bears the distinction of being distributed under prescription by Dutch pharmacies as a recognised variety of medicinal-grade cannabis.
Smokers who enjoy the strain claim that it gives an upbeat, energetic high that is predominately a head buzz. Patients report that it treats anxiety, nausea, depression, migraines, headaches, stress and more. It appears to have no “come-down” and is said to taste good.
