There is a big possibility that Trump will win the 2016 election. Americans love bold leaders who can give great speeches, thump the table, have a no-nonsense approach, can offer solutions to problems and outline direct policies to achieve success. Trump’s campaign slogan is ‘Make America Great Again’. He has surprised political commentators with his unexpected success among working class voters. Where does he stand when it comes to legalizing marijuana?
Although Donald Trump’s outspoken comments on immigration and other issues have been controversial, he is leading in national polls and in many state polls. The establishment doesn’t like him because it find it hard to control him. In view of the fact that the drug war is one of America’s biggest failures, he supports legal access to marijuana and he believes that states should be able to set their own marijuana policies with regard to adult use.
What has Trump actually said about marijuana legalization?
When pressed for his opinion on medical marijuana, Trump noted that he was “a hundred percent” in favor of medical marijuana’s legalization.
“In terms of marijuana and legalization, I think that should be a state issue, state-by-state. … Marijuana is such a big thing. I think medical should happen — right? Don’t we agree? I think so. And then I really believe we should leave it up to the states.” Washington Post, October 29, 2015
“I’d say [regulating marijuana] is bad. Medical marijuana is another thing, but I think it’s bad and I feel strongly about that. [Moderator: “What about the states’ right aspect of it?”] If they vote for it, they vote for it… But I think, medical marijuana, 100%.” C-SPAN, June 23, 2015
“We’re losing badly the War on Drugs. You have to legalize drugs to win that war. You have to take the profit away from these drug czars.” Miami Herald, April 14, 1990
Donald Trump is known to be careful to eat fresh, organic foods and includes vegan, organic and gluten free meals at the Trump hotels. In fact, the Trump family’s way of eating and living has been dubbed “The Trump Wellness Plan”.
Most people who enjoy a natural, clean way of living and eating usually have the outlook that natural, plant based foods and medicines are optimal for good health versus synthetic, chemical foods and medicines. This open-minded and up-to-date approach to healthy foods will bode well for those hoping that marijuana will eventually be de-criminalized nation wide, if Trump wins. This would mean that many more people could benefit from medical marijuana and that marijuana research can finally start to move forward.
