Former military intel chief Flynn: ‘Obama’s ISIS strategy not working’

(NationalSecurity.news) Retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency who was forced out by President Obama for excessive candor in his assessments, continued his criticism of the president’s strategy for defeating ISIS recently in an interview with The Daily Caller.

Flynn, who left his post in 2014 after serving in the U.S. Army for 30 years, said he believes that the country is being led by a political ideology that ignores strategies and decisions that are based on facts on the ground.

The retired general said Obama is downplaying the threat of Islamic terrorism and overstating the country’s readiness because of an allegiance to his Left-wing political ideology. And he dismisses the tone-deaf president and the media elite who are hyper-focused on gun control and so-called “Islamophobia” following the Paris and San Bernardino terrorist attacks, saying, “It’s about religion, and not about gun control.”

“It’s a cancerous form of radical Islamism and we cannot allow it to exist on this planet anymore,” he continued.

Obama has told the nation “we’re on track” with combating ISIS, but Flynn readily says that “we’re not on track.”

“His strategy is not working” even as he criticized senior government officials who, either out of fear or self-interest, won’t tell Obama the facts.

“Obama has made incredibly poor decisions that have made us less safe,” Flynn said, when asked about releasing GITMO prisoners, accused deserted Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl and others.

The Daily Caller notes further:

Other topics discussed in the video are the mistake of invading Iraq, the disaster of toppling Libya’s leader, the error of allowing Pakistan and Syria to be safe-havens and using America’s military as a social experiment while allowing our readiness to decline.

“We are allowing the threads of this nicely woven fabric to be pulled apart,” Flynn said, adding that he thinks it will take more than one president after Obama’s two terms to right the ship of state and for America to lead the world again.

Earlier, Flynn said he believed that the Obama administration fudged intelligence on ISIS and other organizations like al Qaeda because the president was more interested in getting reelected in 2012.

“I think that they did not meet a narrative the White House needed. And I’ll be very candid with you, they just didn’t,” Flynn said, regarding information the White House discarded that essentially predicted the rise of ISIS in 2011 and 2012 because the information was counterproductive to the president’s reelection narrative.
