(Bugout.news) Many of us are spoiled by the trappings of modern technology when it comes to making our way from Point A to Point B. All we have to do is enter our destination into the GPS in our vehicles or cell phones and presto – the way forward is instantly and digitally displayed for us.
But what will happen in a SHTF scenario when the satellite relays are down and/or our electronics run out of power? Do you know the common basics of using an ordinary compass and map to find your way, perhaps to your bugout location or just somewhere you can rest, relax and replenish?
Map- and compass reading definitely are skills worth having, and will most definitely come in handy should you find yourself in a situation at some point in the future where the GPS is down and out and you can’t rely on your smart phone to show you the way.
There are many types of compasses on the market (the military compasses are some of the best because they’re made to last), so get one today and start practicing with it. You can usually obtain a topographical map of your general area from your local conservation department.
