  • Evolution Wonderlounge, an LGBTQ+-focused bar in Edmonton, has introduced a new policy allowing children to enter until 9 p.m., aligning with its spring season expansion.
  • The bar plans to install jukeboxes, set up a karaoke stage and introduce daily happy hours during the renovation process.
  • The club justifies the decision by referencing restaurants that allow parents to enjoy alcoholic beverages with their children, arguing that their policy complies with existing regulations.

Evolution Wonderlounge, a popular LGBTQ+ bar in Edmonton, has announced a new policy allowing children to enter the establishment until 9 p.m., as part of its spring season expansion.

In a recent Instagram post, the club, which calls itself "the only club serving the 2SLGBTQ+ community year-round," announced that it would welcome families to the venue. The bar will be undergoing renovations that include installing jukeboxes, setting up a karaoke stage and introducing daily happy hours. "Every restaurant in the city allows parents to have an alcoholic beverage while enjoying something to eat with their kids," an Evolution Wonderlounge spokesperson said, when asked about the decision to allow children in a space that identifies as serving the 2SLGBTQ+ community. However, the original post has since been removed and comments have been disabled on their social media platform.

According to Juno News, which first reported the story, the decision was based on the precedent set by restaurants that serve alcohol, which are allowed to permit children inside under certain conditions. The club argued that its policy is in line with existing regulations.

As it turned out, Evolution Wonderlounge is a member of the Alberta 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce, which receives government funding through Canada's 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurship program.

Pro-LGBT Canada is pushing ideological agenda in Canadian families

The provincial government, led by Conservative Premier Danielle Smith, has allocated over $26 million since 2021 to support LGBTQ+ programs focused on equality, safety and inclusivity.

In line with this, the government of Canada announced a $25 million investment in the country's first-ever 2SLGBTQI+ Entrepreneurship Program. The program was co-developed with organizations across the 2SLGBTQI+ ecosystem and will be administered by the Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC), the principal organization dedicated to helping 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurs in Canada.

The program includes three key components: Business Scale-Up, Ecosystem Fund and Knowledge Hub. The Business Scale-Up program will build the CGLCC’s capacity to help 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurs start or grow their businesses, particularly in regions where entrepreneurship ecosystem support is limited or non-existent.

Activities include implementing a national mentorship program, improving access to corporate procurement opportunities and helping 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurs become export ready. The Ecosystem Fund will provide funding to not-for-profit business-support organizations to deliver projects that help entrepreneurs develop their business planning skills and access entrepreneurial tools and learning resources.

The fund will also raise awareness of key challenges facing 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurs. Finally, the Knowledge Hub will conduct research and collect data to create a clearer picture of the entrepreneurship landscape for the 2SLGBTQI+ community and the challenges they face. This project will be led by one or more knowledge organizations selected through a call for applications process run by the CGLCC.

According to the CGLCC, 2SLGBTQI+ entrepreneurs make important contributions to the Canadian economy, yet they continue to face systemic barriers in starting and growing their businesses. The new program aims to address these barriers and build a more inclusive economy. All this, just to push their ideological agenda to Canadian families.
