Michigan Republicans decry FBI inaction on alleged 2020 voter registration fraud in their state
By Richard Brown // Sep 07, 2023

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has yet to release its findings after it was called in to investigate a potential voter registration fraud scheme across multiple states, including Michigan, during the 2020 presidential elections.

With no criminal charges filed, Republican officials are raising concerns about a perceived double standard, particularly in light of recent state-level charges against individuals associated with former President Donald Trump and the Michigan GOP.

The Muskegon Police Department (MPD) and Michigan State Police (MSP) compiled dozens of pages of police reports, focusing on GBI Strategies, an organization central to alleged voter registration fraud during the 2020 presidential election. The two law enforcement agencies initially carried out the investigation before the FBI took over.

Police documents reveal that there were interviews with GBI Strategies employees and specific instances of voter registrations that appeared suspicious or fraudulent. An MSP memo even described the potential crime as "Election Fraud by Forgery."

Michigan GOP Chairwoman Kristina Karamo cited the MSP and MPD reports as proof that widespread "corruption in [the] election system" exists. She also asserted that the FBI concealed the findings of the state investigation on the matter. (Related: Politicians and mainstream media tried to bury massive 2020 VOTER FRAUD in Michigan.)

In a video posted on social media, Karamo expressed the view that those in office who have benefited from what they perceive as a corrupt system are unlikely to investigate it. The chairwoman of the Great Lakes State's GOP chapter also underscored the need for lawful political engagement to address systemic election concerns.

Lawsuits for GOP electors, coverups for GBI operatives

Karamo's remarks came on the heels of legal action by state authorities against GOP-leaning operatives. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed charges against 16 individuals referred to as "fake electors" who falsely claimed that Trump won the 2020 election. A special prosecutor also announced charges against two pro-Trump attorneys accused of breaking into voting machines in an attempt to demonstrate fraud.

However, Nessel's office earlier confirmed an ongoing state investigation into thousands of suspected fraudulent voter registrations, which had been subsequently referred to the FBI. The probe was sparked by a report from the Muskegon City Clerk's Office regarding suspected voter registration fraud. It also involved the execution of an MSP search warrant at a GBI Strategies office, in which weapons and notes related to their operations were discovered.

The investigation uncovered that a woman, referred to as "Suspect 1" in police reports, claimed to work for GBI. She detailed her role, explaining that she was tasked with finding unregistered voters and providing them with registration forms. Initially, she mentioned canvassers earning money for each completed form but later stated they were paid hourly.

While the canvassers claimed their forms were complete and accurate, subsequent police inspections found inaccuracies, including non-existent addresses and incomplete information.

Open Secrets, a non-partisan research group tracking political finances, revealed that GBI received substantial payments from Democratic and far-left groups during the 2020 election cycle. An interview with another GBI employee based in Atlanta indicated the organization's widespread reach, with offices in multiple states.

Despite ongoing investigations, GBI has not responded to multiple requests for comment. The FBI has maintained its standard practice of neither confirming nor denying the existence of an investigation, further adding to the mystery surrounding the case. The bureau's Detroit field office likewise did not respond to recent inquiries.

Regarding the state-level probe, it was determined that fraud had occurred at GBI's lower levels. According to a spokesperson for Nessel's office, internal indicators suggested that some employees were engaged in fraudulent activities, fabricating work without fulfilling their expected duties.
