America Unhinged: A government that fears the people will govern wisely – Brighteon.TV
By Kevin Hughes // Jun 22, 2022

Legislators need to know that they are being held accountable by the American people, according to blogger and book author Debbie Faris.

"My philosophy, and I think a lot of us share this, is that when those who govern us fear the people, they will govern wisely. So they need to know that there's a lot of people keeping tabs on them," Farris told Raj Doraisamy during the June 15 episode of "America Unhinged" on Brighteon.TV.

"Unfortunately, our legislators only listen to the people when it's time for the vote. And that is what's going to really grab their attention. Everybody needs to participate and each one of your legislators needs to know that they are being held accountable."

Faris, author of the book "Beyond the Breakpoint," urged Americans to take a step forward and participate in any way they can. "Desperate times call for desperate measures," Faris said. She also called for independent-minded authors and people who are trying to get information out to go to online writing platforms like Substack.com.

Doraisamy, filling in for regular host Dr. John Diamond, can relate to the message that Faris was trying to relay.

In an interview earlier this year, Doraisamy said that about two years ago he was just a guy who cared but was completely ignorant. "But now I'm engaged. And there are millions of people like me. And you, the folks watching this show, you have got to get engaged," he added.

Doraisamy co-founded Defend Florida, a state-wide, citizen-driven movement designed to protect the state and its citizens from federal government overreach. It is a movement created in the wake of the 2020 election that connects citizens, groups and clubs throughout Florida.

But Doraisamy noted that people don't need to join a national movement to make an impact. "Do what General [Michael] Flynn says: Local action equals national impact."

Legislators need to know people at the grassroots level are involved

Elsewhere in the program, Faris talked about her new project dubbed Call One Day, which seeks to get the attention of legislators and let them know that people from the grassroots level are observing and participating.

According to Faris, the Call One Day initiative is basically like "a roar and a purr." She said a roar is when people want to get some actions done, like letting a senator know that he or she should pass this bill, cast a vote or enforce an amendment, among others. A purr, on the other hand, would be an encouragement, like a thank you for caring for Florida, or for voting yes or no.

Call One Day is an initiative that people can get involved in and all it takes is picking up the phone. Faris said the information given depends on the caller's county or location. She also encouraged everyone who wants to get involved and do something to text the word "speak" to 91776. (Related: Michele Swinick urges Americans to engage and get involved in politics – Brighteon.TV.)

Meanwhile, Doraisamy mentioned the huge blunder made by Republican legislators in Arizona who passed a bill apparently without reading it

Doraisamy pointed out that this thing happened because the American people are not holding their legislators accountable. He noted that people can get careless in their work when they are overworked.

"Americans must make sure that their legislators are held accountable by letting them know that they are being watched and that the American people are still part of the process," he said.
