He said: "You hear a lot about the supply chains in the news, but frankly, not a lot of people have a clear understanding, whether they have a Ph.D. or they didn't go to school, about how a supply chain works.”
He then broke it down for those who he feels are not as mentally sharp as he seems to think he is by saying: “In simple terms, supply chain is just the journey that a product takes to get to your doorstep.”
Earlier this month, he made the same dig at Americans’ intelligence at a news conference.
"If we were all going out and having lunch together and I said, 'Let’s ask whoever's in the next table, no matter what restaurant we’re in, have them explain the supply chain to us.' Do you think they’d understand what we’re talking about?"
Comments like these remind us why his handlers go out of their way to keep Biden from talking too much. Of course, this is just the latest in a long string of actions and words from him that make it pretty clear that he underestimates the intelligence of the American people.
In fact, many Americans are smart enough to understand that the current supply chain woes are due partly to some of Biden’s own policies. For example, his vaccine mandate sees companies with at least 100 workers and federal contractors requiring vaccines or regular testing at a time when businesses are already struggling to hire enough workers. In September, there were 589,000 job openings within the warehouse and transportation sector, and although the mandate has some exceptions for commercial truck drivers, the American Trucking Association is clearly very concerned about the mandate's effects on the industry because they sued the Biden administration over it.
Meanwhile, a deal he announced last month to set up operations at the Port of Los Angeles around the clock in order to break up the huge container ship traffic jam that is being blamed for driving up consumer prices has failed to have the desired effect. In an online briefing, the port’s Executive Director, Gene Seroka, said that while the complex has 24/7 capability, a shortage of nighttime warehouse workers and truck drivers means they cannot make a nonstop schedule a reality.
He stated: “It’s an effort to try to get this entire orchestra of supply chain players to get on the same calendar.” Of the thousands of importers, he said, “we’ve had very few takers to date.”
While visiting the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a news conference: “This is jaw-dropping without precedent. You’ve never seen six containers stacked high.”
While Biden insults Americans’ intelligence, the public has a few questions of its own about the president's mental capabilities. Biden has increasingly been making verbal blunders, and it’s painfully obvious that those around him are desperate not to let him go off-script when speaking to the public.
In a new Politico/Morning Consult poll, 48 percent of Americans said they believed Biden is not mentally fit in a huge turnaround from last October, when voters largely said the opposite.
Pollster Neil Newhouse said: “When you watch Biden, you get a sense that he’s just missing a beat, that he’s not what he once was. Voters are picking up on it.”
