Larry Hamlin: Climate emergency is the product of propaganda and politics without scientific backing
By Ramon Tomey // Oct 12, 2021

Larry Hamlin explains in a Watts Up With That article how and why climate emergency is nothing but a product of propaganda and politics.

Many climate experts have insisted that humanity is facing a climate emergency, promoting climate alarmism and a sudden shift to renewable energy sources. But climate emergency lacks any scientific backing.

In his article, Hamlin cites an April 2021 opinion piece written by Mark Fischetti and published by science magazine Scientific American titled "We Are Living in a Climate Emergency, and We're Going to Say So." It says: "Journalism should reflect what science says: The climate emergency is here."

"Consider the following scenarios: A hurricane blasts Florida. A California dam bursts because floods have piled water high up behind it. A sudden, record-setting cold snap cuts power to the entire state of Texas. These are also emergencies that require immediate action. Multiply these situations worldwide, and you have the biggest environmental emergency to beset the earth in millennia: climate change," Fischetti writes.

"The planet is heating up way too fast. It's time for journalism to recognize that the climate emergency is here."

Hamlin says the claim of rapid temperature increases in the planet is backed up by references from the climate hearing sponsored by Democratic Party senators in June 1988. That hearing featured the testimony of climate scientist Dr. James Hansen. Hamlin argues that Hansen's climate model from his testimony had an "extraordinary number of flaws and errors."

"The claims about global average temperature anomalies increasing dramatically in the future because of increasing greenhouse gas emissions highlighted at this hearing – 1.5 to 4.5 C temperature anomaly increase by 2030 – have been proven wrong," Hamlin writes.

The climate model Hansen presented to Democratic senators in the 1988 hearing projected a 1.4 degree Celsius increase between 1986 and 2021. However, actual measurements show an increase of only 0.49 C during that period. Meaning, Hansen's climate model has overestimated the actual temperature increase by two-thirds.

Hamlin says: "The planet is heating up much more slowly than climate alarmists claimed in the hearings in 1988, even with significantly global increasing emissions driven solely by the world's developing nations led]by China and India. The actually measured global temperature establishes that there is no scientific basis for the Scientific American's flawed propaganda claim that 'the climate emergency is here.'" UN report disproves theory of yearly increases in Earth's temperature

A report from a United Nations (UN) agency disproves the theory of yearly rising temperatures. The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) notes in its Climate Change 2021 report that the claims saying the Earth's temperature increases by a minimum of 1 C yearly are not true.

The report says that surface temperatures from 1850 to 1900 and from 2010 to 2019 fall between 0.8 C to 1.3 C. The highest estimated temperature increase arising from human activity since 1850 was only 1.07 C, it adds.

Furthermore, the report notes that temperatures over land are higher than those over large bodies of water – contributing to even lower temperature estimates. Terrestrial temperatures range from 1.34 C to 1.83 C and a 1.59 C average. Meanwhile, ocean temperatures range from 0.68 C to 1.01 C and have a 0.88 C. average

In a Sept. 3 op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Holman W. Jenkins Jr. pointed out that earlier UN reports predicted a worst-case rise of 4.5 C. The IPCC report clarifies that based on real-world data, a 4 C rise would already be the worst-case scenario and any temperature increases beyond 5 C would be "very unlikely."

"The UN panel now says the dire emissions scenario it promoted for two decades should be regarded as highly unlikely, with more plausible projections at least a third lower," he writes.

After 41 years of promoting a fuzzy and unsatisfying estimate of how much warming might result from a doubling of atmospheric [carbon dioxide], the world's climate science arbiter has finally offered the first real improvement in the history of modern climate science."

Jenkins also slams media outlets for their climate change fear-mongering based on "inconsistent computer simulations." (Related: Theory of annual rise in Earth's temperature due to climate change is now exhaustively DISPROVED.)
