The effort began last year after Newsom locked down his state due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pretty much left it locked down ever since, even though it’s obvious lockdowns don’t work because the virus is still spreading throughout his state and people are still dying from it.
That could be due, in part, to violations of his mask and social distancing mandates. Or perhaps violations of his inside dining restrictions.
Yes, that’s it; the latter. Inside dining restrictions.
Which brings us back to Newsom’s recall.
Again, the effort began last year but it really picked up steam after he was busted last fall dining inside a swanky eatery known as the French Laundry with a lot of close (rich and powerful) friends, none of whom were distancing or wearing masks.
“I should have stood up and ... drove back to my house…The spirit of what I’m preaching all the time was contradicted," he said after he was caught and outed. " I need to preach and practice, not just preach.”
Sure. Oh, and tell everyone else to leave, too, since they were also violating his order. But he didn’t because rich and powerful lobbyists were in the vicinity. Of course.
It didn’t take long and the group focused on recalling Newsom gathered the required 1.5 million-plus signatures to get the recall on the fall ballot (though the verification process is ongoing).
But Newsom either didn’t learn a single thing from his French Laundry escapade or he simply doesn’t care because he doesn’t think the voters will remove him — one or the other. Because he just got busted violating his own indoor dining ban again.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom appeared indoors at a restaurant in a county where indoor dining is not allowed, but the governor's office has said he did not dine at the restaurant.
He was there to meet with the restaurant's owners, who received a relief grant, Newsom spokesperson Daniel Lopez told Fox News.
Newsom posted a video to his TikTok account with celebrity George Lopez talking about where to look for coronavirus vaccine eligibility. Newsom and Lopez were in Fresno, Calif., and are inside Los Amigos restaurant.
So, got that? If you’re the governor or a rich celebrity in California, you have a status to do whatever you want and without any restrictions. (And as an aside, how many celebrities in California have harped on and lectured ordinary Americans about wearing masks, socially distancing, and doing all the other things ‘the science’ tells us to do during this pandemic?)
Now, as the video shows, Newsom was at least wearing a mask this time. But the point is he violated his own order — again — as throngs of small businesses and restaurants continue circling the economic drain while they struggle to survive his restrictions.
“Gavin Newsom continues to show that he's nothing but an incompetent elitist who could [not] care less about California families," John Burke, communications director for Kevin Faulconer for Governor, a Republican planning to run against Newsom, told Fox News. "His failures have crippled our state's economy and upended the lives of millions of families. We're going to recall him and begin a California comeback to get our state on track."
What Newsom did, again, was obscene and insulting, but it’s par for the course — not just for Newsom but several prominent California Democrats: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and San Francisco Mayor London Breed have also been caught violating the Newsom’s orders, but again, they’re rich, powerful Democrats in the bluest of blue states and so their behavior doesn’t count.
