Some of Joe Biden's nominees for United Nations and State Department positions have links to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The National Pulse's Natalie Winters reported Nov. 24 that members of Biden's transition review team for the State Department have also served as Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG) consultants and lobbyists. Chaired by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, ASG is a consulting company with an extensive focus on China. Its website called its China operations "the firm's largest single country practice."
Three members of Biden's 30-member Department of State Transition Review Team hail from ASG – including team lead Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who Biden recently named as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Thomas-Greenfield also leads ASG's African practice; she had previously overseen African affairs during the Obama administration.
Transition team member Sumona Guha serves as ASG vice president, drawing on "20 years of experience in Europe and South Asia to advise clients on market entry and expansion, including political and regulatory strategies." Another team member, Roberta S. Jacobson, is an ASG senior adviser who draws on "more than 30 years of distinguished diplomatic experience" to serve the company's practice in the Americas.
ASG assists American companies with Chinese business laws with only one cardinal rule: Strictly adhere to the CCP's rules. It touted a number of instances on its website where it helped various companies penetrate the communist country, such as aiding a multinational resort and entertainment firm develop a large-scale project and assisting a "leading global retailer" acquire a domestic retail chain with the help of a U.S. cabinet secretary.
ASG has Communist Party officials on board to help liaise with government bodies
Given that ASG's practice in China requires frequent collaboration with CCP officials, the company also had former Party and government officials on board.
ASG China Chairman Jin Ligang is a "former senior government official" with experience working in Chinese diplomatic offices in Washington and New York. Meanwhile, ASG Senior Adviser Dai Yunlou served as the minister counselor for economic and commercial affairs at the Chinese Embassy to the United States from 2000 to 2010.
Senior Adviser Mu Lan served as Chief Representative in China for for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey from 2001 to 2012. Prior to her stint at the port authority, Mu worked as a deputy director of the cultural exchange organization Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group. Mu's early accomplishments included the introduction of the National Geographic magazine to China.
Senior Director Wang Peishu worked as a commercial consul at the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles before joining ASG. Her role at the consulate general's office involved helping Chinese companies build relationships with local business and government stakeholders.
The elder Biden's links with ASG consultants and lobbyists echoes that of his son Hunter
Joe Biden's connections with ASG executives mirrors links his son Hunter had with CCP-connected individuals. In October, the New York Post released emails outlining Hunter Biden's business dealings with Ye Jianming and Dong Gongwen. (Related: Communist China backs Biden for president.)
Tycoon Ye Jianming was the younger Biden's business partner, who the Chinese government took into custody in 2018 over "suspected economic crimes." There has been no news about Ye ever since his arrest. Hunter had significant investments in Ye's company CEFC China Energy.
Meanwhile, Dong executed transactions on behalf of the Chinese tycoon and concurrently served as the chief financial officer of the Hong Kong firm Kam Fei Group. He and Hunter opened up a credit line at a bank, which made credit cards available to the younger Biden, his uncle James and James' wife Sara. The couple then went on a shopping spree, charging more than $100,000 worth of items to the said account.
