Committee chairman Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) told Fox News that they were already in touch with the source who provided the email. “Because the individual in this instance spoke with the media about his contact with the committee, we can confirm receipt of his email complaint, have been in contact with the whistleblower, and are in the process of validating the information he provided.”
An Oct. 14 piece by the New York Post mentioned that the 2015 email was among files recovered from a water-damaged laptop sent to a computer shop in the Bidens’ home state of Delaware in April 2019. The customer who dropped off the device never paid for the repairs and never retrieved the laptop or its hard drive, despite the shop owner’s repeated attempts to contact the client.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) seized the laptop in December 2019 after the owner informed federal agents of its existence. However, the owner made a copy of the laptop’s hard drive and later gave it to Robert Costello, lawyer for former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. The former mayor then turned over the hard drive’s contents to the Post.
Pozharskyi’s email thanking the younger Biden was written eight months before the elder Biden, now running for president, threatened to withdraw U.S. aid to Ukraine unless the country’s top prosecutor was fired.
Back in March 2016, Joe Biden threatened then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko: Fire prosecutor Viktor Shokin or the U.S. will revoke a loan guarantee amounting to $1 billion. Shokin was investigating Burisma and its founder Mykola Zlochevsky at that time over allegations that Zlochevsky used his position as Ukrainian minister of ecology and natural resources to approve oil and gas licenses for his own company.
Shokin was already ramping up his investigation into both Burisma and Zlochevsky. He had already progressed far enough, convincing the country’s courts in early 2016 to seize the Burisma founder’s remaining assets in the country. Zlochevsky fled Ukraine in 2014 amid an uprising that toppled his pro-Russian allies in government. The prosecutor claimed he was preparing to interview Hunter Biden with regards to his tenure in Burisma – until his firing.
The elder Biden would later brag to the Council on Foreign Relations in 2018 about how he caused Shokin’s termination.
Another email by Pozharskyi from May 2014 asked how Hunter Biden could use his influence to “stop … politically motivated actions” against Burisma. Pozharskyi said in the email that “representatives of authorities in power” were approaching N.Z. with “the aim to obtain cash from him” – N.Z. pertaining to Zlochevsky.
When Burisma did not give in to the demands, the representatives then “proceeded with concrete actions” such as “one or more pretrial proceedings” and intimidation of the company’s clients, partners and suppliers.
The April 2015 email obtained by the Post contradicts Joe’s earlier statement that he never spoke to Hunter about his son’s “overseas business dealings.” However, the elder Biden has repudiated these claims to the point of agitation.
Last February, he chastised NBC News host Savannah Guthrie after asking if it was wrong for Hunter to take a board seat at Burisma mainly because the company wanted access to him. The elder Biden said: “That’s not true. You're saying things. You do not know what you're talking about. No one has said that — who said that?”
Biden also reacted similarly during a December 2019 Democratic Party town hall in Iowa. When a man in the audience commented how he sent his son “to work for a gas company that he had no experience for ... in order to get access to the president,” Biden retorted: “You're a damn liar, man. That's not true. And no one has ever said that.”
Joe Biden can deflect and deny Hunter’s involvement in Ukraine all day, but the emails involving Hunter Biden clearly show their involvement in corruption of a larger scale.
