On Tuesday, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff did what most seasoned politicos expected him to do: He recommended in an anticipated report that the full House begin a formal impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.
“This report reflects the evidence gathered thus far by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, in coordination with the Committee on Oversight and Reform and the Committee on Foreign Affairs, as part of the House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry into Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States,” the California Democrat said in a statement that accompanied the report, USA Features News reported.
“The decision to move forward with an impeachment inquiry is not one we took lightly. Under the best of circumstances, impeachment is a wrenching process for the nation,” Schiff continued.
“I resisted calls to undertake an impeachment investigation for many months on that basis, notwithstanding the existence of presidential misconduct that I believed to be deeply unethical and damaging to our democracy. The alarming events and actions detailed in this report, however, left us with no choice but to proceed,” he added.
Let’s be clear about one thing: Schiff “resisted” nothing. Democrats, including him, have been plotting to impeach President Trump since the night he beat Obama’s heir apparent Hillary Clinton and decidedly so, once the final electoral votes were tallied.
But more broadly, what’s truly galling is the fact that Schiff is getting away with accusing Trump of doing what Democrats have done.
Principle among the fake charges against the president is that he threatened to withhold military aid from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky unless he agreed to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden as well as attempts by the DNC and the 2016 Clinton campaign to get ‘dirt’ on Trump.
Joe Biden himself admitted to doing that very thing and on behalf of President Obama. NewsTarget reported in September:
About a week ago, the MSM reported that President Trump allegedly withheld military aid from Ukraine as a way of forcing Kiev to provide evidence that former VP Biden threatened that country in 2015 to shut down a probe into a gas company in which Hunter served in a lucrative “board member” position.
There is no evidence to prove the president did that, but there is plenty of evidence to prove that Biden, not Trump, was the one who actually threatened Ukraine a few years back on behalf of the Obama administration — and specifically to have the prosecutor probing corruption within the gas company fired.
Schiff and Democrats have also accused Trump and Russia of “colluding” to interfere in the 2016 election. In fact, the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign did that.
The National Sentinel reported compelling evidence in May indicating that the DNC and the Clinton campaign used a Democrat operative to solicit political dirt on the president or anyone working for his campaign.
The report was based in part on a January 2017 story in POLITICO detailing how the government of Ukraine was scrambling to repair the country’s relationship with then-President Elect Trump after betting that Clinton was going to win.
Schiff and Democrats have also accused Trump of actually withholding lethal aid from Ukraine, but he only did so for a short while — and Ukraine never even noticed. What’s more, at least President Trump provided lethal (military) aid to Ukraine, which is at war with Russia-backed separatists following Moscow’s theft of the Crimea.
Obama never agreed to provide Ukraine with any material aid — weapons — Kiev could use to defend itself, despite a 1990s-era agreement to do just that.
Most Americans with a couple of brain cells to rub together knew that Schiff was going to recommend that the full House begin an impeachment inquiry of Trump. But it’s maddening to see him get away with falsely accusing the president of things members of his own party have done.
