Kash Patel, a senior counterterrorism official and member of the National Security Council, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Left-wing “news” outlet POLITICO, alleging the publication “conspired” and “acted in concert” with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) to leak false information in an effort to further the impeachment “inquisition” against President Donald Trump.
The suit, filed in federal court in Virginia, also claims that Schiff “weaponized the media” in order to pursue his pre-determined impeachment agenda, Breitbart News reported Monday.
The site added:
Patel is a former staffer to the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), who later moved to the White House in the NSC to advise the president on national security and intelligence matters.
In other words, he’s not ‘one of them’ — that band of #NeverTrump deep state types whose allegiance is to themselves, their personal agenda, and that of Democrats.
The suit was filed against POLITICO, one of its reporters, Natasha Bertrand, and Robert Allbritton, the publisher and executive chairman of the outlet.
The suit accuses the defendants of defamation by working with and through Schiff as well as members of the California Democrat’s staff to spread false stories about him.
“Defendants intentionally employed a scheme or artifice to defame Kash with the intent to undermine the President’s confidence in Kash and to further Schiff’s impeachment inquisition. Defendants acted in concert with Schiff to accomplish an unlawful purpose through unlawful means, without regard for Kash’s rights and interests,” Patel alleges in the suit.
In addition, he claims, “defendants abandoned all journalistic integrity and violated their own code of ethics in order to further the conspiracy with Schiff. Defendants did not seek truth; report truth; minimize harm; act independently; and they most certainly were not transparent.”
Patel is accusing POLITICO of publishing a pair of false stories claiming he was providing President Trump with negative information about Ukraine while misrepresenting himself as an expert on the country. (Related: Perjury? Schiff ‘star witness’ LTC Vindman claimed Obama shipped lethal aid to Ukraine but…it was Trump.)
But POLITICO won’t “retract or clarify” the allegedly fake stories, the suit claims.
Breitbart notes that The New York Times also published false information about Patel but POLITICO is the only outlet named in his suit.
The lawsuit contends that between October 14, 2019 and November 8, 2019, POLITICO and Bertrand colluded and conspired with Schiff to defame Patel.
It says that Schiff himself or members of his staff “acting at his direction” leaked closed-door testimony to Bertrand of former NSC member, senior advisor and European and Russian affairs specialist Fiona Hill, and NSC Director of European Affairs Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman.
“The leaks occurred in real time,” the lawsuit contends. “Schiff leaked the testimony to Bertrand because Schiff knew that it would be a violation of House Rules and Committee Rules for Schiff to publish the substance of the testimony himself.”
The purpose of the leaks, Patel alleges, was to ensure that Hill’s and Vindman’s false and defamatory statements were published, as well as their personal attacks on him, all to further Schiff’s impeachment narrative and “inquisition.”
The suit also alleges that Bertrand communicated with Schiff and/or his staffers using an encrypted email service including ProtonMail and messaging services like Signal.
Patel also alleges that POLITICO knew the information about him provided by Schiff was false.
The lawsuit seeks $25 million or more in “presumed damages and actual damages, including, but not limited to, insult, pain, embarrassment, humiliation, mental suffering, injury to his reputation, special damages, costs, and other out-of-pocket expenses.”
The suit also demands a jury trial.
We’ll be monitoring whether man gets his justice. No wonder Trump calls the “mainstream” media an “enemy of the people;” they openly conspire with seditious Democrats to depose a duly elected president.
